willashcroft
After getting back into RC's a few years ago, I started again with a 1/16 Summit/MERV, and enjoying small scale fun with the dogs. I bought a job lot of Traxxas models that had been left unused for years, and planned to rebuild them and sell on, some of which have already sold. Whilst testing a few of them out, the Slash 4x4 immediately took me back to 14 years ago, the way the truck handled, ability to take jumps, and rolls alike. I considered keeping this one, but it's already up for sale, and I wanted something that was top spec, something I couldn't afford back when I didn't have a full time job. The original plan was to convert the rustler 4x4 I'd got for a bargain on marketplace, but the parts needed to convert it was quite large. Original thread here (With mostly missing photos): So browsing marketplace, and this popped up. LCG chassis, Ultimate spec, 3x lipos, charger, outerwears cover, new proline wheels/tyres. Barely driven, for $600/(£300). So I snapped it up. On the way from picking it up I HAD to replace the alloy lower arms and driveshafts, so called into the LHS. Things have changed since I had my last one, HD arms and driveshafts have FINALLY been addressed by Traxxas. steephill
Cool write up👍. I did similar to my slash 4x4. It was in bits spread around my attic. It took me a while to locate all the parts. My intention was to get it working and sell it. I had already swapped to the lcg chassis. After few minutes of drifting around on the wet cobbled lane to my house I remembered why I've had it so long and not sold it. It's a basher that can take a lot of abuse but drives really nice. Traxxas do a upper chassis brace for the slash 4x4, probably a worthy upgrade I should probably get a set of the HD arms, mine has rpm arms, too flexible for my liking. I still don't trust those plastic shafts.

The Traxxas HD ones are thicker overall, and I'd rather do a shaft than break a diff. Edited August 19 by willashcroft
ReggieC
I moved over the Fastrax driveshafts when I was attempting to use mine for racing. They worked really nicely. Also use the HD arms instead of RPM as they'd all bent long ago

They were great so I ended up running them on all of my Slash 4x4 based RC's. Much better than MIP's (Which rust) and X-01's (which cost a fortune and arent that strong). Ziggy122
Welcome back Ash! its been a while! Glad to see you got bitten by the bug again! tracxas drive shafts have always been weak point, I tended to split the cups/UJ areas... rather than the actual shaft itself - Iirc didn't you do photography at one point too? either way! looking good! keep going!
