Hyper ST or Hyper SST?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I've recently been getting back into the RC hobby, and I'm saving for a new car.

I used to have a Hyper ST (RTR), and I'm thinking of either getting the same car, or a Hyper SST as a change. Can anyone advise?

Many thanks,

Nic

I've got the sste.

I really like it and prefer to my kraton 6s exb. It's lighter and a chunk quicker and handles nice.

The hyper st is a better truggy than the sste, but it does cost more.

There's a few members on the forum have one and rate them highly.

I'm sure someone will come along a tell you how fragile the sste is, but I've found mine pretty durable. If you want to beat the crap out of something at the skate park I'd recommend something else.

If you look on YouTube there's a good few videos praising the sste.

The hyper st will cost more so depends on your budget.

@Nicholas Jones no worries mate 👍.

The stock tyres don't last too long.

I run fastrax truggy wheels and tyres with a slightly wider hex, only because those particular wheels come with zero offset and they rub when on stock hex's. They're nice and cheap but plenty of grip for bashing on mixed surfaces. Way cheaper than 40 quid a pair.

I have hobbywing Xerun system, it's super smooth and fast. The Ezrun are very good systems and are waterproof. That's just my preference for motor and esc.

The usual things that will break on the ST rtr are the chassis braces as they are cast aluminium but you can replace them with the ST pro cnc ones. The rtr servos are weak but usable. Not had a SST, it all depends how hard you bash to whether it is robust, but you do read that some parts are weaker than the ST. If your starting from scratch then a new ST rtr is better value, or look for a used ST pro.

Yup, i ran fastrax dish wheels with 0 offset on my old st, gonna put them on the new one aswell.

I feel you with the brushless conversion, it was a 3674 motor running on 22.2v, and it did some insane wheelies. Never ran full speed, as the Etronix Photon SBS system cacked after 2 runs on 6s (I wonder why lol), but I do now have an old hyper st for donor parts :)
