Lancashire Lass with a Landie says hello!

Recommended Posts

Hello MSUK folk!

Very recently got thrown into the hobby by my dad who presented me with my first RC on holiday after a disastrous Lego motor kit conversion failed to pan out.

So I’m now the proud owner of this beaut -

(hmm, not sure why that first one is upside down, if I upload the image flipped like rather than the normal one, it stays upside down rather than flipping it to be normal… how odd)

A Carisma Sca-1e Bulldog RTR weathered edition - plus some extra detail work done by me as DIY as possible, its been a lot of fun bringing it to life.

Had lots of fun driving through shallow streams, up muddy slopes, crawling over some stones and just seeing what it can do whilst on holiday. And I suspect it won’t be too long before my Dad caves and gets one for himself as well.

I have a light kit off Aliexpress on the way and am trying to work out the cheapest way to get the interior 3D printed because everywhere is quoting me silly money because its a really awkward shape to print as far as I can tell. Not sure what the next detail projects will be though, I’m sure I’ll think of something! I know Carisma do an inner fender set which may be nice but seems expensive for what it is so may try and DIY my own.

I have a few questions as well, if this is an alright place to put them.

For starters, is reversing always so sensitive? This thing feels like it has a real hair trigger when it comes to reversing, sure there is the throttle reverse switch on the remote but having to flip the switch back and forth in quick succession when climbing obstacles isn’t really ideal. Is there something I’m missing or is it a case of trying a different controller or something?

Secondly, the tyres are a bit… squelchy. Obviously from the water and mud but is there an easy way to remove them to try and dry them out?

I know portal axles exist for other models, are there any that can be retrofitted to the carisma chassis? I quite like the sound of them, but know they aren’t cheap. I may be trying to go too fancy with that idea though.

Now a more general question, I keep seeing terms like ‘scale crawler’ and ‘comp crawler’ online and am wondering what the difference is?

Excited to be part of this neat hobby, now just need to take it out closer to home, be good if it’ll get me out of the house a bit more. Apologies for the long post, I do tend to ramble.

Nice to meet you all,

Raynn

not sure what the issue is with reverse, you should have graduated revers on the throttle trigger same as forward control

It is graduated, just a heck of a lot less than the forward is, so its hard to reverse slowly/precisely if that makes sense. I can get it to crawl slow in reverse but its a very careful movement, barely have to push the trigger (a few mm if that), its almost as if the acceleration curve is a lot less linear and ramps up much much faster to the point if you push just a bit too far (and I don’t mean as far as it goes, not by a long way) it shoots off backwards with a start. It may be completely normal to

be honest, haven’t anything to compare with. The things real zippy anyway, even on speed 1 on the remote, I may just need a slower motor (or better fine motor skills).

Hi and welcome to the forum :good:

As for flicking the channel reverse on the transmitter to get reverse isnt right

Have a read at the esc manual or find 1 online and set it up using the manual
