Foam or balsa?

Recommended Posts

No question, it’s amazing what they can do with foam. And for a workhorse plane where appearance isn’t a concern they check a lot of boxes.
I’ve seen wood models shrug off things that would put a foamy out of action (albeit temporarily). I’ve also seen foamies sent to the repair hangar by things a wood model would barely notice.
Now, in a full-on crash… yeah the turn-around time for repair definitely favours the foamy, especially if looks aren’t a factor.

Thoughts?

Yes, foam airplanes are more durable than wooden airplanes. The fuselage is more collision-resistant and not easily damaged. It is very light to fly and can easily perform many aerobatics. It is also especially suitable for novices. I buy it. I have experienced many foam electric airplanes, some of which are very good. I have used them for a long time and am still flying. If possible, I would like to recommend them to you. You can go and see which airplane is suitable for you.

Foam has its place but it all depends on what you want to fly and where.

a properly built wood or fibreglass model plane will outlast any foam model and still look better after a few weeks/months/years.

But if you’re looking for a quick flight a lunchtimes, then foam is your best option
