Shims

Recommended Posts

I need to shim some of my crawlers, ie, wheel bearings and diffs, but some need different internal,/external diameter and different thickness. What do people use as shims, as is there a mixed set to buy, as my internet searching doesn't come up with anything

Cheers 👍

I bought a set of shims a while ago from eBay, took about a week to arrive from china.

I think there were about 25 different sizes of shims in various thicknesses.

I'll see if I can find the listing but I can't guarantee they will fit though.

These are the ones I bought, the 1200 set.

Another place is an RC firm in the UK called RC bearings. I've also bought shims from there, and many bearing sets so it is a good shop.

they don’t do a mixed pack but lots of options and only 95p for 10. I did manage to get them to do a mixed pack of bearings so may do it with shims if you ask nicely!

Does anyone know of a shim that has a split in it?

Its because I cannot remove the starter shaft and so need to be able to put them on like a c-clip

(do excuse the double post, as I have a separate one about this - I just happened to see this one)

Shims are thin steel/stainless steel so just cut with scissors if required.

Hurray! I gambled that and got a selection of washers and a hacksaw.

I just wasn't sure about friction at such high RPM and a roughness of the cut

Shim or washer?

Yea I'd be careful using a cut thick washer as it might wear away at the shaft etc.

Thin shim would be ok cut.
