MrMcG
A long overdue but brief update - Went for a blast at Beckenham Place Park, something close and lots of space. Rain and weather had turned most areas into mud bogging which was great fun to be fair and we had a blast for around 35mins The last pic before disaster 5 mins after this all hell broke loose... full throttle coming towards me and it just cut out the nose dipped and dug in and an incredible gymnastic routine was observed in short after a quick look Cracked bulkhead Suspected front diff or ring and pinion Steering link Servo arm More upsetting is the fact the ESC seems to have exploded Max 6, the switch no longer works and it cuts out randomly (tried different batteries) OUCH! Looking at this now as a replacement https://www.modelsport.co.uk/product/castle-mamba-monster-x-8s-336v-esc-w-1717-1650kv-sensored-motor-1334720 Will upload pics of all the damage as I find it 😄
MrMcG
Attacked the car today to see what was up with the front diff. Ominous start... Here we go Hmmm its fine Oh.. Well that explains that and its far better than the expected ring and pinion failure that I initially expected! ESC still dead though 😄

New ring and pinion setup was around £60/70 instead its a £15 shaft. 🙂 Its due a rebuild and clean up so ill take this chance to do it and see what else needs a bit of TLC. The mud bogging and swimming I have done with it has rusted bearings but on the whole with the abuse it gets... Can't complain. It is an incredible RC car.
wolfie1
I reckons whats happened there is rocks/grit has gotten between the shaft and the bash block and worn it down to the point where it has snapped and it got jammed up

Sure, These are the boots https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/143394151191 IMO they provide actual protection from the elements and conditions, I will always run them when I have them 🙂

wolfie1
I have the same mount on my xmaxx, i stuck a piece of high density foam between the motor and mount at the rear to help against bending stuff

wolfie1
I think i mentioned this before on this thread, i am going to take a guess at sandy stuff getting between the bash block and the shaft and over time has worn the shaft away until it was so weak it snapped
