Not to much if you have a rig as a donor, scx10 or similar.

You can get a chassis kit for 30 - 50 ish quid. I've had a few, they are really good for the money. Just look carefully as some are better than others.

There's plenty of good axles on aliexpress, you just have to look carefully.

The scx10 ii axle copies I bought take genuine arr44 diffs, shafts and hubs. You can get them for about 60 quid a pair.

I got some plastic capra axles with plenty of brass and overdrive for 120 for the pair and I'm well impressed with the quality and finish.

I've had two bodies from aliexpress 12 & 14 quid.

Then your choice in electronics, whatever your budget is.

I picked up a 2low gearbox copy for 12 quid delivered.

So fairly cheap for a custom build compared to the high end products.

Very interesting. Could be my first foray into aliexpress! Will see how well I get on crawling next week!

@steephill

how do you adjust the preload on the internal sprung shocks ?

On the desert lizard shocks there isn't any preload adjustment like on the factory crawler shocks.

It's possible to add preload, you'd have to add spacers between the springs internally.

I've never had the need to adjust preload on the desert lizard internal sprung shocks.

They come with various springs. Three different weights for droop and three for full droop or full height.

I run them on the droop setting.

I've got some on my Trx4 F150, now low trail and I love them.

This is my Injora lcg scx10 build.

It's been sat in the attic doing nothing.

The gearbox I had in was a aliexpress buy from a few years ago. It sounded like it was full gravel and I'd picked up an upgrade with delrin skid and overdrive.

It was a pain setting up initially with the short front links and funny shape upper front links.

I'm testing out one of the surpass 5 slot crawler motors, I've only given it a little test but very smooth.

The gearbox was a pain to fit, ideally a small outrunner would be much easier but I had nothing spare.

It's a good chassis kit for the money. But I'd only recommend it if you're going to use a small outrunner.

I've tried a three gear gearbox a d the lcg gearboxes I've tried were worse.

I'm going to try some of the new Injora S5 pin tyres and inserts next.

That entire front end is very short, probably giving the skid really good clearance and break over, but doesn’t leave a lot of space for a motor though…so I can see why an out runner would suit that setup.  Those front lowers look like they might hit the motor on compression? I love the crazy shaped uppers, that’s some creativity going on there.  A rig with lots of bang-for-the-buck and would most likely give your 10 Pro a good run for its money 😎

@Andy-Roo Yeah not much room at the front. The front lower links just about clear that motor when the shocks are fully compressed.

I did debate giving up on this chassis but they do work pretty good once you've got over fitment issues.

I'm going to fit brass hubs to the front and test with those new Injora pin tyres.

I'll have to do some back to back testing, 10 pro vs my aliexpress mongrel builds.

Just seen that, 22 quid is a bargain.

That’s what I thought. That’s about £95 plus shipping from RP

Fitted a front axle I recently built.

SSD diamond front axle with injora brass knuckles and brass c hubs from aliexpress. Pretty good tolerances, nice snug fit.

And a little more overdrive, 10% giving it 40% total.

A good bit more needed weight to the front end.

I gave it a test round the course and it's made a huge difference, a lot more stability and planted.

I've got yet another aliexpress lcg chassis.

This particular chassis looks quite nice, a little more expensive than the others but still cheap at 60 quid delivered to the UK.

Comes with chassis rails, front bumper, rear bed, delrin skid plate (that takes axial three gear & 2 low)

Dual chassis servo mount, front body mount and some carbon boat sliders (I think that's what they're called, the sliders that stick up👍).

I've managed to get the wheelbase, I wanted (just over 330mm) luckily by going through my spare links.

I'm going to put a axial three gear in for now and try the new Injora lcg gearbox when that arrives with either a fusion Pro or rhino. I'll have to see how much room is available when the gearbox is fitted.

The axles are the aliexpress capra f9 axles.

That’s a hell of a lot of kit for £60! You’d never guess that’s off Aliexpress…it’s incredible for the money.

I’ve been spending a fair bit of time on the US crawler forums and a 13” WB seems to be the go-to for most rigs, with some stretching out to 14+…although those rigs are using a carrier bearing in the rear and 3 driveshafts.

I have that same bed, I got it with a couple of those bumpers to try out, but it doesn’t fit my setups without some serious cutting, so it’s still in the bag.  It fits that chassis really well though and looks sweet 👍

@Andy-Roo I was looking for some side skid plates / sliders and saw the chassis and one thing lead to another. Looks like there's body mounts for the back and front of the cab.

Definitely a lot for the money.

I'll get some more pictures up with the sliders and shocks on. The longer wheelbase is definitely a good move for climbing, the last few I've done have been minimum 324mm.

Looking very nice! That front driveshaft looks like it’s on the limit there. Have you tried the cut to length driveshafts? I was wondering how good they are because they don’t seem to have much ‘play’ in them for articulation.

@Andy-Roo Thanks mate 👍.

Yeah the front shaft is at the limit, good eyes 👍. I've got some more in the parts stash, I might have one that fits better. I don't like them stretched out too much.

I haven't tried the cut down driveshafts. Who does them?

I've just connected the esc to the pc and gone through the settings.

Out to the crawler course soon.
