Popular Post PraetoR
OK, I've realised that I seem to go through a LOT of GT12 bodyshells! So, rather that starting a new topic each time, I'll put photos in here. Makes more sense! Anyway, here's the story... I started racing in early 2022, for the first time in 17 years. GT12 class. It has been a big learning curve. I've never raced with brushless power, lipos, 2WD, non-independent suspension, 1/12 scale, tyre additive, motor timing adjustment, nor 2.4 GHz radio systems. Loving it, though! Bodyshells used: Kamtec Porsche 911 GT3 R in Castrol livery (based on the 1990s Castrol Tom's Supra). Painted by Sharkfat RC Customs. This is my favourite shell, so far. It's just a shame that the "proper racing" bodyshells make such a difference in GT12. I'm at the point now that I'm scrapping for hundredths of a second. I think I'll still use it on non-championship, fun nights. Christmas and that sort of thing. Front sticker got changed to "Trinity Power", when I upgraded to the fantastic Trinity Revtech motor. After that, I tried a Bittdesign Agata. It's a Lamborghini. Lamborghinis are my dream car brand. Unfortunately, it didn't last too long, as I didn't understand tyre prep and the car was all over the place. It got damaged, quite quickly! After that, I ran a Phat Bodies GTM (it's a McLaren). One of the staples of GT12 racing. I've ran this shell for longer than any other. Up to my last time of racing, in-fact! This photo was taken at the end of last year and almost 12 months later, I've still been using it! You can imagine how beat-up it looks, now!! Tried another Bittydesign Agata "Lamborghini", because I really wanted to run one. This one was painted by Sharkfat RC Customs. I've decided that white, gunmetal grey, yellow and orange are my colours. Ran it a good while, but it's a little beat-up, by this point. Biggest issue was the sheer size! It's soooo much longer and wider than every other shell I've used! That did cause a few issues. After I'd stopped using this, I went back to the Phat Bodies GTM (above). After that (and very recently) I had Totally Average Paintjobs do me a Mika Häkkinen tribute paint job, as the Bittydesign Seven20 is clearly meant to be another McLaren. This looked fantastic, but it very much blended-in with the colour of the track! I should have thought of that. It lasted a mere 2 weeks... then got stood on, by a Marshal. Game over for this one. And just finished today... again, painted by Totally Average Paintjobs, a Montech MLGT3. In "my" colours. Again, a McLaren. Very similar to the Phat Bodies GTM. I'm not a fan of the way McLaren road cars look, by the way. They're just the current shells to have. This one should stand out and shouldn't get stood on!! It looks fast standing still! It's the same colour I've painted for my old Losi XXX-S and my Gmade Komodo Double Cab. It's stunning, in the flesh. Photos never do it justice. From memory, it's Tamiya translucent red, backed with bright silver, backed with black. 17 hours ago, Lone-wolf said: Lovely bodyshells i think the Kamtec Porsche is a stunner, didthat come as a clear shell or white Thank you. Yeah, agreed. I love a "real" race livery. It was clear; the white, red and green are paint.
Popular Post PraetoR
Decided to try a cartoon paint job. I thought they looked interesting. Came out alright! It's got an entire can of Tamiya flat clear, on the outside. Gets rid of the shine and really does make it look like a sketch/drawing. 4

PraetoR
Ran the cartoon paint job shell for a while, but it was only meant as a bit of a joke. Heavy, too! There's 6 cans of paint on that thing! Definitely costing me at least a little lap time! Got myself another Sharkfat-painted shell. Another Phat Bodies GTM. First run tomorrow.

PraetoR
Thanks, man. Racing went great! Smoothest meeting I've ever had and a solid 3rd in the A-Final.

PraetoR
Bit of an update... it hasn't gone smoothly... Of course!! So, first thing's first. Sharkfat made a bit of a mistake, when painting the last shell. He must have cut too deep with his craft knife, when removing the mask, between paint colours. The result was micro-slices that follow along the edges of each colour. One crash, and the entire shell split right up to the roof!! We know this was the cause, as the splits follow the paint lines, exactly. The shell was just too thin at the edge of each paint line. So, I got one race meeting out of it! Moving on! I decided to paint another shell, myself. Spent too much on professional paint jobs and I didn't want to risk another incident. I had bought another Phat Bodies GTM, to replace the new, busted one. However BittyDesign released the gorgeous P-GT3R (Porsche 911 GT3 R), so I gave the GTM to my brother-in-law and ordered the new BittyDesign. Being Italian, it took them over 2 weeks to actually post the thing (not deliver, post!), so I had to use the cartoon car, in the meantime. Painted it up. I am pleased with the job I did. It looks great! Took it to the racing, quite looking forward to being the only one running the new BittyDesign Porsche. Sitting in the A-heat, alongside a bunch of boring McLarens! Emmmmmmm... ...So, this body shell doesn't handle worth a crap!! Car was awful, all night! People were telling me how bad my car looked (to drive). I qualified on pole, down in the C Final. First time I've been in the C-Final for almost 2 years. Won it, but only just. Shell is too big, too heavy, too tall and doesn't provide any downforce! After one meeting, it's now a shelfer! I ended up having to buy another Phat Bodies GTM! Yes, another, boring McLaren! My brother-in-law had already used the one I gave him. Just fitted it. First run, tomorrow. I don't particularly like it. I thought the bright silver and the orange would work together. Like the bright silver did with the yellow, on my first Phat Bodies. It just doesn't. Ach, it's fine. It's not baaaaad, but it's not good. Sort of meh. Hey, as long as it handles well! My top shelf is looking a little ridiculous, now! I'll try not to think about how much I've spent on GT12 bodies! You can see the size difference, between the BittyDesign Porsche and the two Phat Bodies McLarens. That is a big ol' unit! One, day, I'll get this right!

PraetoR
Another shell! I just wanted to try another Montech MLGT3, as it's supposed to be more aggressive (more "front-endy") than the Phat Bodies. My car was handling very nicely, but could use a fraction more front-end bite. Just back in, from running this for the first time. I didn't find it aggressive! I expected it to be more pointy than it was. However, it was very nice to drive; very balanced, easy and forgiving, yet quick. I won the B final, but had the speed for the A final, had I put together a slightly tidier run. All good! And, hey... it looks better than my last paint colours! PraetoR
OK, so I should have updated this AGES ago! However, better late, than never. For the Halloween event at my club, I decided to run this hotrod shell. I got it for £4, but it had no masks and no stickers, so I had to improvise. Masked off the windows with liquid mask; not perfect, but good enough. Drew-in the window seals and front grill, using a black Uni Posca pen, which gave it a satisfying "cartoon villain" vibe. I wanted a cool (as in "low-temperature", not "hip/snazzy/chic/righteous") flame look, so figured some Tamiya Midnight Pumpkin flames would look the part. Good choice, I reckon! Some skull Gmade stickers went well and I figured a baddy that owned a car like that could be considered an Outlaw, so on those went! Overall, pretty good! As you can see, I had to cut a hole at each side, to allow the shocks to poke through! I also had to remove the entire front bumper and mount, as well as make my own front and rear body mounts. Worth it! In the end, no-one else at the club ran a daft shell! I expected plenty of them (especially since I bought the shell at the club!). As a result, I was down in the C-Final, somewhere. Anyway, it was a laugh. The week before Christmas was my brother-in-law's birthday, so I bought and painted a new shell for his Schumacher Atom CC. He liked this Montech RS-01 "Renault" shell. I had free reign on colours and design, so he didn't know what to expect. I really like it! It seems to handle, superbly! His car is soooo stable and smooth, now. I was thinking about getting one for myself, however these are not BRCA-approved, meaning I would not be allowed to run it at the Scottish National events. Shame! Finally, we get to my most recent shell. As per my previous post, I painted the (yellow & white) Montech MLGT3 for myself, as it was more pointy than the Phat Bodies GTM. It certainly was! I enjoyed the shell on some tracks, with a satisfying change-of-direction, but on other tracks, it just did not have a nice balance. Once, I even ran it without any front tyre additive, which is something I never do, just to calm it down. This shell achieves very quick steering, partially by encouraging the inside-rear-wheel to lift, causing the car to pivot (akin to having lots of front caster angle). In the end, it was too inconsistent and often too flighty. Phat Bodies have recently released a new GTM shell, with a revised front end. Most easily identified by the new, very prominent, front bumper. I assume it give more frontal area, and, therefore, steering, compared to the old GTM. All I can tell you is it is more planted and stable than the Montech MLGT3! I painted basically the same as the Montech, as I like those colours. This is how the car is, currently. We'll see how long that lasts! I love how it handles, now. I'm back in the mid-pack, A-Final. Also, back up to second in my club championship. The Atom 2 is going great.
