Id personally stick with stock motor, unless you want to spend a lot on a new motor mount etc

With this combo i have in the new max 6 g2 and 4990 1650kv motor i couldnt be happier tbh. But as kpowel said i had to buy a new motor mount, i opted for the scorched rc which i didnt think was too expensive at around £70 off the top of my head

Is it me or Velineon 1200 price is more than double of HB 1650kv?! If this HB motor have similar characteristics to original motor - price vise it should cost similar to switch to HB + mounts etc..? Im a little consurned about "3-6S" sticker on HB motor.

I thinking buying a new retail Traxxas motor is silly, find a used one or one from the breakers like Jennys. I dont know what you mean by HB, do you mean Hobbywing?

The 1650kv is only rated to 6s. Ive no idea where the craze started to suggest it for X Maxx’s. Hobbywing make a 58 series 1100kv or 800kv for the X Maxx. These need a Max 5 ESC not a Max 6. The 4990 1650kv may fair better but its still only rated for 6S

The spec of the esc are both 8s rated but 1 being able to handle 160a and the other 200a continuous, its the motors that are rated differently, the link with the motor 4990 is the 1 to go for if thats the size of motor you want, its also the 1 with the 200a esc

wasnt easy, but i managed to find and order 4990 + x6 g2 from germany 🙂 now i have to find decent motor mount. The one you have is out of stock and i dont think it would work for me since i usa rather heavy coolers, would prefer front and end support mount.

Scorched rc do also do a rear mount too, i have a bit of dense foam supporting the underside of my motor.

i would be interested too see your cooling setup

Hello,

By any chance you are running MAX6 G2? Started to asemble and test the G2 combo and noticed that ESC fan turns on initially, but then stops after few seconds - is it temperature controlled or something?

Yes thats right the max 6 g2 is temperature controlled, comes on for a second or 2 when initially turning on and then wont come back on until the temp gets high

I had some issues setting the trim. The first time when you have to hold power button for 3 secs and the set neutral/full throtle/full brake. Neutrall and full throtle had no isues - ESC acknowledges neutral and full throtle with beeps, but full brake - does nothing... Tried several times - i get stuck on that step. Bet when i turn off and turn on normaly - brake/reverse funtions normaly - not sure if i should get voried about it...

Couldn't find any info online/manual - at what temperature does the fan turn on (ESC fan)?

I would have to look at the instructions for the set up info, here is an online link https://www.hobbywing.com/en/uploads/file/20230912/eae31d6f6f29efe612078b069d932f3e.pdf

Mine was very easy to set up i remember, have you got the throttle trim set to 0, have you also tried updating the esc before doing this? Make sure your phone in connected to wifi, open the app and connect the esc and update the esc, i remember doing this on mine before i tried setting anything up
