Popular Post Kpowell911 Posted September 20, 2022 Popular Post Share Posted September 20, 2022 (edited) To save clogging up the brushed rally car for under £200, as this doesnt fit the criteria, I thought Id start my own thread. I brought the cheapest messiest Rally I could find. It just happened to be the rare Snap On Edition. Its a shame its being used, but it was very cheap for this sort of RC. Its not without issues, but my Christmas mission is to restore this to as mint as possible, and basically turn it into the Slash I sold and regretted…… Needs a bumper and a spur but it runs: Plan is to clean it up, upgrade it and brushless it. I intended to sell the stock electronics, but err Not sure what is holding this RX in? Ive got a parts list so its time to get saving, I need to go through my spares and see what Ive got. From what I believe, Snap On dealers ‘give’ these away to customers, as Snap On sponsor the real Traxxas race team. As a result, you can’t ‘buy’ these, but people obviously sell them on, for a premium. Most people keep them NIB, this one was used hence the ‘cheap’ price. I think its just the shell and box thats different. It also comes with a battery and charger in the box. Ive bought some decent upgrades and fresh stock parts. Ive also ordered a TSM Radio. Its now gone from a bargain to hmmm. Traxxas went on a weird path with this. I honestly never knew this, but Traxxas orginally released a Rally VXL. Brushless, fast, fun. Non-licensed body, but Brushless. They then got a Ford License, created a licensed version…… and stripped it back and went to brushed with inferior parts…… SO my intention is, make this how it shouldve been, based on A Slash Ultimate. Itll have Slash Ultimate Aluminium parts, and an official TSM Radio and genuine Traxxas Centre diff. So when everything shows up, this should be a Rally Ultimate Roller, then Ill sort the electrics. I have all the bits to convert my rally to a slash barring a shell and I hope to get to use it as a rally car but need some spare wheels and tyres first which seem to be very elusive….. To be honest mate, I think Im gonna run the stock wheels/tyres as I really like the look of them. First few parts are trickling in. Interestingly, the instructions with it say to only run it on 2s, which I didn't use to do so it's entirely possible that was the downfall of my last one. However Ive decided to be “traditional” and Ive gone for a brand new Traxxas Velineon System out of @Gaz! Slash Ultimate. This is inferior to the Max 10, wasnt much cheaper and is 3S only (well, ESC is anyway), but is more fitting I think. I cant run my servo at 7.4v now either..,, Ive just added up what Ive spent and Ive been murdered by the exchange rate from Jennys and the charged to my Debit Card is £192 for some alloy and a radio. Ouch!! The entire build has cost me £627…. And I still need driveshafts. Truth be told I wouldnt have spent that much but as Ive done it in £50 here, £80 here orders, I didnt feel it so much. That said, this is basically a brand new, upgraded Traxxas Rally Snap On Ultimate edition…. Which doesnt exist which is kinda cool. That said, someones probably already done similar!
