Hi all, I'm on the hunt for booster for my transmitter. Can anyone tell me if any of these 2 are any good please. If not can you recommend one that I can use

P.s my transmitter is a sanwa mt-44 if that makes a difference

Any info much appreciated

Thanks

What these do is put out a higher power signal by using an external battery for the antenna. If you're happy opening your transmitter and doing some soldering you should be able to make it work. Doesn't look easy though.

Hi, I know what they do but just unsure which if any is better than the other

As for opening my transmitter that's light work I love a challenge 👍

I've got that one you linked above fitted on my Futaba 4PLS radio and I know a  few speed runners who use the same one. I bought mine from eBay but it's the same.

So that I didn't have to do any soldering I used this SMA male plug so it was very simple to fit on/in my radio.

For powering mine I am using a Turnigy 3S lipo (as below). I was warned these boosters are power hungry so a minimum of 3S was recommended to me and nothing below 2500mAh.

That's the one I keep looking as it seems to be the one that is most tried and tested. Only seen 1 person document using the smaller one and that was on the arrma forum. Shame i cant get it sooner unlike the smaller one but not a problem as cant do anything with the weather at the moment.

Most lipos I've seen people use were smaller ones but tbf I was gonna a use a similar one like you have listed only because I already have them.

I'm seen somewhere make sure u dont turn  on one with out the other as you can fry the tx. Is there a specific order?

Cheers for your info

Never heard anyone mention that before tbh so that's a new one. Next time I speak to some of the ROSSA guys I'll ask if any of them have heard that before.

@pieman5 @Redback you two heard anything like that before?

I haven't heard such and have connected the booster up and powered it before the remote, there isnt power going back into the remote as its direct powered and only the antenna is connected.
I also havent used lipo as its only rated to 5v mine got hot on AA batteries so id assume 7.4v would fry the booster.

I'm using this one you linked.

Just made a case for it as didnt like it being bare.

I prefer to not use the booster it as it adds quite a bit of delay, making the car hard to control at 500m+.

That was the 2nd one I linked that I wasnt sure on as not seen much about them unlike the other one. Looks nice what you have done with the case.

I'm using what i assume is a re-brand or copy of the first one you linked.

If you are powering the booster from a separate lipo theres no danger of frying anything (assuming the lipo is the correct voltage) but i always turn on the transmitter first anyway and then plug the booster in.

I'm only using a small 700mah 3s on mine, could probably do with something a bit bigger but its enough to last me for one days worth of ROSSA speed runs.

  • 2 weeks later...

It's a really simple job to fit but just take your time and be gentle with unplugging the old aerial wire and fitting the new one. Those circuit boards aren't always the strongest.

Hope all goes well. :good:

All fitted was really easy and didnt take too long. I wish there was a bit more room  inside the battery tray to fit the 3s but no chance and I had to take off most of the carbon skin off. Either way I'm well happy with it. Just need to test it out now
