horatio
4 minutes ago, Stormbringer said: was going well In fairness, it drove really good. It's got a noticeable amount more punch. If conditions had allowed, I'd have got some longer squirts of full throttle. The video was a small fraction of the overall runs, but a squirt from mid throttle to full throttle coming through the gates resulted in a totally unexpected wheelie at about 40+ mph. Bonkers. I'll find the part and upload a separate video. I think it's got 75mph in it, on 17/46. 🤞

horatio
Sadly, the part where it mid throttle wheelies through the gates was missed by my onboard camera - it went flat half way through the run. 🤬 It's a shame because the new Onyx 6S pack certainly packs a punch. horatio
6 minutes ago, Stormbringer said: cool thats whats giving it the extra oomph My older Onyx 6S has plenty of go left in it, but this rig has lots of extra 'go' since the rebuild. 12° centre front drive angle is a deal breaker. 😬 Until I beat my personal bests, I understand why someone might wonder if it's simply 'the human factor' - confirmation bias, but it's definitely got more go. On a dry day, I'm going to find just how much faster. I'm confident I'll find 4 mph of extra top speed, using same motor, ESC, 6S, gearing & rollout. Once that has been established, I'll feel more confident in increasing the horse power. 👍
Yrkoon
awesome deffo handles better than my stock kronos, that just wheelies every where 😄
horatio
The 60mph slides have flat spotted my tyres, making them less useful for speed runs. So, I have a set of these on the way: L-T3353SB I think they should hold up OK for sub 100mph runs. At 145mm, they are slightly smaller than my Jetkos, but 300 grams less rotating mass. 😁 Nice. 🤞 The rollout changes from 52.66mm/rev - to 50.90mm/rev, which on 22v gives me a predicted top speed of 74.9 mph using my 1780kv motor. If I wanted to risk it, I could try the Kuron 825 on the same gearing and it could theoretically hit 92.68 mph. Or catch fire - you decide! 🤣😅 Edited October 12 by horatio
horatio
Rinse - repeat. This time, the rig was faster. 😎💪 Video to follow shortly. Servo horn failed. I drove around the problem until steering was lost. 😬 I wondered where all the torque steer was coming from! 💩
wolfie1
You know i really dont like that type of servo horn, every 1 i have ever used has done exactly what yours did (the 1 bolt ones too) Edited October 13 by wolfie1

I already had another AGF one in my toolbox, so that's on for now. To be fair, it's lasted nearly 3 years. And the servo kicks ass. To be honest, it's probably those mahoosive Jetkos and perhaps my trip into concrete at 60 mph that might have had something to do with it....😅🤣

horatio
It would have been easy to leave the strip thinking "fail!" - but actually, reviewing the footage and putting a video together. Look at how many 60mph passes it did! It was cruising at 50mph with spare to wheelie on 17/46. 😆 It never overheated and despite the steering getting vague and then failing altogether due to this: It remained really great fun - even in the rain. This is insane already before I get into any upgraded ESC or motor - let alone 8S. 😬 But the Kronos Wideboy has some tricks up it's sleeve yet. I will not let up until it passes 70mph on this 1780 KV motor and 6S. 😝
horatio
Time to change the tyres. The Jetkos have performed well through countless passes at speeds well over 60 mph. But they are heavy. The Louise MFT Speed tyres are slightly smaller. Jetkos 155mm x 80mm Louise 140mm x 80mm Jetkos - 1762 grams total weight Louise - 1489 grams total weight Total weight saving = 273 grams. 😎 Rollout changes to 49.15mm/rev, which should equate to 72.4mph on 6S using the 1780KV 4292. Balancing the wheels was straightforward. They required just 3-5 grams per wheel, which is good for tyres of this size. I was impressed with the accuracy of the tyre alignment and bonding. They were true and wobble free - obviously essential for a speed tyre. Tyres were accurately balanced using XTR bicycle wheel weights (2.5g) and blu tack. Pros: - lighter, - very round/well mounted/no wobble - required only 3-5grams to balance - no gap between the insert and the tyre Cons: - MFT isn't belted as such - fibres are in the tyre - Squarer edge have greater tendency to grip roll They're nice looking, asymmetrical tyres which are not directional like the Jetkos. I doubt the tread has much of a bearing here, but hopefully they work OK in the wet, seeing as Wales gets so much liquid sunshine! 😅

horatio
New Kagama front arms fitted: Carbon fibre inserts are coming straight from Corally Belgium directly. Front geometry did require slight tuning afterwards, as the Kagama arms are slightly longer because they include alloy reinforcement where the pivot ball mates up. I generally run -1.5° - -2° negative camber on the front. Interestingly, I also noted a slight increase in toe-out, so this also had to be adjusted. The Kagama monocoque arms are a nice improvement and should help with steering authority. I still use 2 x 0.5mm shims on each side to prevent unwanted play fore/aft. Time to give it another blast! 🤞
