MAXX 4S OWNERS THREAD

Mine came with the Traxxas CVD's, not sure I'd have bothered myself, from what I hear / read, if you stay with 4S max, and don't continually use the self right, then the stock plastic shafts can last quite well, and if/when they do finally let go, they're cheap to replace.

Really like this truck, much more than I ever expected to.  Still running stock esc & servo too!

I don’t think the shafts suffer to badly from self righting. I snapped the end of one after a cartwheel. £8 for a pair of half shafts, still on the stock servo to. That’s probably the only thing I might change in the near future.

Gone back to stock battery strap on my other modded Maxx.

I went with a velcro strap to run 6S, but struggled to keep the tyres on the rims so only run 4S now. Also, i used to rip a velcro strap every run, so back to stock for now:

I find the stock battery hold bar works ok but make sure there is no free space above the battery otherwise the clamp might not be held in place securely enough and can come undone during a crash.

Can anyone recommend good paddle tires for the Maxx? Also is it necessary to have them on all 4 wheels or can I just do the rear wheels? Planning on running it in the snow. Also looking for stiffer springs.

Not sure about paddle tyres, proline ones will likely fit and work, ensure you gear down when running paddles as they cause a lot of additional strain on the driveline, can run just rears but you won’t have much steering except from at low speed.

I assume you want stiffer springs to reduce the chassis slap? Since you are running a heavier power system and wheel/tyre combo it might be a good idea to put slightly stiffer springs. TRX8969 are the stiffer springs. I would suggest slightly thicker than stock oil, 100cst higher will do. Don’t go too thick as it will make the car unstable at speed over terrain.

I put Losi 60wt in the rear and 50wt in the front. I know it says in the manual it ships with 60wt in the front and rear but it feels more like 35-40wt. I have the V2 Maxx which comes with the stiffer springs.

I found these rear body protectors off eBay to help with the back of the body shell not falling to bits after bad landings as I found out after few bad crashes 😅. I have added it to a new Maxx shell as I found traxxas sell a thicker version so with that added plus shoe goo the body it should out last the truck.

maybe helpful to anyone making a new shell up or trying keep one going a bit longer with a rear body protector.

Took the Beater Maxx out today. Was absolutely incredible. It needs a rebuild now, may try and convince my Mrs to Maxx V2 convert it, but we will see.

A couple of weeks ago when i had the widemaxx out a tyre blew itself too bits, i will say this traxxas tyres are consistently rubbish!

jpDezAE.jpeg
as a stop gap measure i put these wheels on from the trophy truggy

not wanting to spend a lot on wheels at the moment i seem these on aliexpress for £20 delivered and thought i would give them a go, the way in which they mounted was a little bit different but nothing that a washer wouldnt sort out, the offset on these is different so they stick out a bit further too

Hi all,

As some of you may be aware from my other thread, I recently got a new V2 Wide Maxx last Friday.

After seeing a few reviews mention it having a soft rear end, I'm inclined to agree with them after dropping it from less than waist height and hearing the rear chassis hit our wooden floor... so, what do people recommend to upgrade with? I've heard people say 'just put thicker oil in', but to me that doesn't sound right, surely you need to change the actual springs, but to what? I've been out of the game for about 15 years, so I'm slowly getting me head back round everything and how stuff works again so please bear with me! Haha.

Are these 'better' than the stock springs, or are they the same?

https://www.modelsport.co.uk/product/traxxas-springs-shock-natural-finish-gt-maxx-1725-rate-2--445824

Are these a decent upgrade and would I need them front and rear, or just stick with one set for the rear? Also, what WT shock oil should I use in them?

https://www.modelsport.co.uk/product/pro-line-powerstroke-shocks-for-traxxas-maxx-f-r-2--1342332

Also, how is this set an 'upgrade'? What's the benefit of it?

Apologies for all the questions, but I thought I'd ask the experts on here that have actual experience with the truck, rather than try to decipher 50 random's opinions on Youtube... 🙂

Thanks in advance,

Rob.

Now, I told myself not to listen to Facebook regarding mods. However, there was some criticism regarding chassis slap, which I did agree was an issue.  So I ordered.

Vitavon 10mm Shock Spacers

VG Raing Springs

Thicker oil

I know this is quite a pretty RC, but trust me, this is considerably my most bashed vehicle. As a result it needed a bit of TLC

Re built and oiled with the new springs and spacers

Whole truck needed a clean, so I gave it a once over….

Now, Ive not THOROUGHLY cleaned it as Im planning to rebuild the whole truck onto a brand new dyed Black Chassis, hence the Rit Dye above 🙂

Recently bought a maxx v2 after decade break from RC, last cars i owned were a Traxxas revo 3.3 and a thunder tiger mta-4(still got it) both nitro and both a pain.

(tell a lie I briefly had a traxxas xo-1 ..5 years ago)

Anyway, I took the Maxx out properly a couple days ago and noticed the steering was funny.. if you lock the steering over fully and let go it returns to normal, but if you lock it over after just pressing the throttle slightly it returns half way stops and then returns to centre after a second or two.

Anyone ever had this? I’m currently looking at buying a perfect pass monster 56kg servo and the standard servo mount, but before pulling the trigger is there anything I should know? Can I just drop it in and it’ll work? Is there a better option for the Maxx?

Thanks.

Did you try it with the TSM turned off see if the problem goes away ?. Sometimes the servo can look like its playing up but its just TSM fooling about and when your driving the truck it feels ok.

Aye servo adaptor mount and any good decent servo you can get your hands on think I have a 35kg Ebay cheapo in my max truck not the fastest but it works Waterproof 35KG Metal Gear Digital RC Servo Coreless HIGH TORQUE SPEED DS3235 | eBay still going after 2 1/2 years of abuse 😃

You might have to stiffen up the servo saver if putting in a better servo as the stock one in my truck was soft as **** and would slip even with the stock servo in it 😬.

If you stick a washer under the top servo saver cap and it should tighten up the servo saver and help with it slipping too much, trail and error to see which thickness washers work think the ones I used was 1mm maybe 2mm its been awhile 🙈. Make sure it still slips when you hold the wheels so your servo saver ..saves the servo on a crash 😅
