First helicopter?

Recommended Posts

Very seriously considering getting my first RC helicopter and I really want to go straight to a “proper” collective model for many reasons.

Been watching loads of videos and keep coming back around to the WLToys V950 for reasons of economy, parts availability and what seems to be a general reputation of being pretty docile for a beginner pilot.

Any particular opinions on this model or recommendations for a better starter package for a newbie?

No, I did loads of research and got the WLtoys XK Blast K110-B 6CH model instead with the XK X6 transmitter - a far superior model, but strictly for indoor or super still days as it’s tiny and affected by the slightest breeze - but it’s really cheap and rugged and I’d highly recommended it 👍👍👍

Thanks for the reply I'd like something for outside just to try, I've gotten into the small Indoor ones syma 107 but would like the next level without spending a fortune!! Any suggestions?

Hi

I’ve been playing with my Son’s fixed pitch heli, Twister Ninja 250 clone, for the past week or so and fancy moving on to something collective pitch, in the hope I can learn a trick or two.

What are thoughts on a first CP heli?

Is it better to try a small one, Blade Nano, Blade cPX, XK K100/110, or are slightly larger models like Blade 230, OMP M1/2, Eachine E180, better to learn on?

Cheers

Thats hard question to answer

Small collective pitch hellis can be very twitchy but can be flown indoors and are less prone to breaking when crashed

The blade 150s and 230s are a lot less twitchy but cant really be flown indoors (ln the house) and fly really nicely from docile to some limited 3d moves

Larger hellis are easier to fly but crash costs can really start to hurt the wallet

I guess the answer lies in where you want to fly em if indoors the nano mcpx size is fine (you can fly them outdoors as well ) if outdoors then the bigger birds like the 150s 230s

The blade models come as bind and fly using your spekky flight transmitter or ready to fly with the bundled transmitter  hth

Hi

You make a very good point there!

I’ve only been flying indoors thus far, but would like to fly outside if or when the weather allows. Until then though, I’d be inside, so something on the smaller side would probably be the better option?

Investing in a multi model radio, so I don’t wind up with numerous controllers going forward, would be a good idea.

That’s helped a great deal, thanks!

Is that 1 where you buy modules for it to work with say spektrum ,futaba or any other transmitter protocol ?

Just about every current format is now included from the factory, but you can still add modules for specialist purposes and to future proof it

Hi

The Eachine TX16 looks great value at just over £100 from Banggood, I think I’ll get one of those.

While that’s travelling, it will give time to decide Blade Nano S3, mCPX BL2 or XK K100/110?

Hi

Do you know what the difference is between the K110 and K110S, other than the colour of the canopy?

It appears to have a barometric pressure sensor, so should be able to do altitude hold like a drone - but I’d have no idea how to set that up or use it

Thanks, I think I can live without that, so I’ll just look for best price between them.

Hi

I’ve ordered an XK K110S and an Eachine TX16S. I added 2 batteries and some spare parts too!

I’ll let you know how I get on.

Thanks again for your help.

Cheers

I got the v950 in the end, only had chance to fly it a few times with the weather seems ok but I've got nothing to compare it to, but already the bugs got me just waiting for wheelspin to open for upgrade servos and more lipo's

I've had the XK110 for a few years now, still can't fly it for toffee in 3G, but then I only fly it about twice a year, so the old hand/eye coordination never really get dialled in properly.

Got a little Eachine E119 for indoor use, a little less manic in the lounge.

Hi

I now have a nice new K110S and TX16 radio. There is also an Eachine E150 on it’s way, red wine and watching YouTube is a bad mix!

All I need now, is to learn how to setup the radio to get the 110 in the air.

Does anybody know where I might find an OpenTX file for the K110?

Cheers
