Finally got her going for speed runs and got 71mph at half throttle!! Running a max 6 esc and 3674 2200kv surpass motor. This is awesome. Wish you got a photo of your rear spur pinion after those 6s passes, there was nothing left! Thank you for the epic drag race, will need to have another go! It was so so close!! Since the last successful speed run (80mph on 3s) the little car just broke 100mph on 4s. Thanks @GMballistic for videoing the pass. video-1623523525.mp4 Prior to this i had hoped for 100 on 3s so gave it a go on 3s with boosts turned all the wayup and got 87 mph so was happy either way as had beat my past PB also tried 2s HVlipo and got 76mph. Only other change i forgot to make on all these runs is move the power setting / punch from level 1 to level 5. Also had some serious issues with radio range...with more radio range i should be able to get more run up to max it out, being limited to very short runs doesn't allow the car to fully get up to speed.
Popular Post Redback
Gotta go faster 😁 A complete custom rear diff drive output using an old ftx highrock axle. Based on @RC-Complex's design however allows using the stock Banzai middle drive shaft. The alternative choice is like RCC has done and replace the whole center drive train and beef it up to take 6s power. As im still only running 4s hopefully this experiment will work, or it will explode either way good fun 😄
Redback
Stripping the car back to fit the new driveshaft, good time to service and evaluate what high speed and power does to a car not designed for it. Plenty of chipped teeth doesnt affect the gear meshing, good for some more runs. Plastic spur looks good for more runs, as does the diff pinion. Had to move and redesign the driveshaft support. Lots of other changes, just gotta wrap up bench testing, before taking it out for a real test, space is getting pretty tight. Thanks for readin.
Popular Post Redback
Been busy getting the car ready for ROSSA attempt 2, so stepping things up a notch. Bench tested 6s on the drive train held up fine, on 1/8th scale power. Hobbywing max 8 and 4274 2200kv motor on 1.1 gearing was just a bit to slow on 4s on the road and motor dragged no surprise there lol. Took out the 6s setup and gone back to the same motor and pinion used to get 102mph i think the setup has 120mph in it so going to keep it in. Upgraded and cleaned up all the wiring to 10awg and 6mm bullet connectors throughout, no more deans and 14awg bottlenecks. 2-8s Ripple cap pack not an offical Ripple Killer so will have to see how it works, can be connected or bypassed. New Dual Boosted 10v reciver good for 600m on water/land, also new transmitter good for 600-1200m. New Custom 5mm spur / drive shaft, allowing use of 5mm bore pinions as spur gears and the use of the stock dogbone middle driveshaft. New driveshaft anti vibration brace working amazing, no failures no noise. New gearing prior gearing was 37t spur 34t pinoin, new gearing is 27t on the spur and 34t pinion, should do over 102 for sure!! Will need to look into tires that can take the new rpm. Thanks for looking!

GMballistic
Great stuff @Redback . Progressing nicely and hopefully the extended range as well as the other mods will see you get to the next cap. 😏 The tyres as someone else from ROSSA already told you will do much better when on the ground. If I revved my Typhon up to full rpm off the floor I'd blow my GRP's off the rims for sure, ...different when they're under load on the ground. Look forward to catching up in August and hopefully seeing some new PB's for everyone.
Popular Post Redback
ROSSA attempt 2 with the modified Banzai, Hoped for 120 as I'm sure its got it in it. Wiped out at over 110+ but successful 108mph pass was stable as a rock. 108ftx.mp4 Came away very lucky from the wipe out, with only some tire scuffs and body scrapes, possibly a bent wheel / axle end and didn't run again. As didn't want to risk wiping out worse on bad tires. Need to tweak the airo and improve the rake to make it to 120mph and stop flipping before hand. The journey to 150kph hat continues. Stormbringer
a shame it flipped just short of the lasers tho mate but 108 mph is still a great achievement with it

Popular Post Redback
Managed to cram in bigger negative gearing hooray! no new holes needed in mount, however did have to trim some top plate for the motor to fit. Old gearing 34/27mod 0.5 new gearing 34/15 mod 1 Would have to cut out too much motor mount to fit low down, a custom plate might work better, as the motors a bit high up for my liking right now. Does give tons of room for fans tho.
Popular Post Redback
Can you belive the shell still fits? Some more tinkering to get the motor to sit back were it should, ground out the motor mount to allow bigger pinion also cut out the chassis to allow it to clear 😂 lol at the pinion almost sticking out the bottom of the chassis. Made a new top brace really stiffens up the chassis no twist flex now. As it's now good for 6s managed to squeeze 2x 5500 3s battries in. Goodbye diffs, wonder if hpi rs4 diffs fit 🤔
Popular Post Redback
With the power upgrade done, time to sorting the issue of lift. I felt the issue was the curve on the underside of the bumper mount acting as a wing. Replaced the part with a bolt on splitter that also has to work as body post mount, angled lip splitter will pull the front down, sideskirts that lock the body into place and car down, diffuser because cant hurt right... March it will get a good shake down and see if makes a diffrence.
Redback
Shes back! First run of the year with the new gearing, motor, esc and 3d printed parts. A easy going shake down on 3s, did max it felt a bit weak on the power side, more road / time needed. Main test was the gearing and it didnt explode so thats a good start. Hope to make it to ROSSA this year, heres last years results for the August event 2021. If the gps is right thats a new pb today 🙂 Edited May 8, 2022 by Redback
Redback
ROSSA attempt 3 for the Banzai! Was hoping for 125mp and got 0mph as it drove off by itself as i set the failsafe to 50% breaking.... but on the banzai its reverse rotation on the motor for some reason, thus 50% throttle right into the grass bank. RIP Bent drive shaft, smashed shock tower, 3d printed parts vaporized, smoke poring out of something, new tires shot to bits. Really gutted it didnt get to run, with so much effort put into prep, but thats how it works live and learn. Use the memory function in the remote to ensure your failsafe is failsafe for the car your running and not a safe FAIL.... Decided i wont run it again... i'll put the 108mph gearing back in and its now handed down to little redback to send it and get his first hat as he did outstanding at the event. GMballistic
I "liked" your post @Redback because although it didn't go well for you with the Banzai it'll be great seeing the little man having fun with it & hopefully getting his own cap. Best of luck to him.
Redback
Cheers chaps, it had a good run and its in safe hands, had a mess about with it before the crash and it wasn't working 100% over geared but still did some 60mph passes on 3s, awaiting the results. Going to fix the issues, maybe pick up some carbon-fiber sheet to replace the 3d printed parts. Also no footage from the event as my phone has died... There has to be some changes kept as the sensored system that was used prior, is going in the savage xs if i can find the right gearing for it. She will run again perhaps in aug... Redback
ROSSA attempt 3 results. Couple of test passes got about 60mph on 3s. Didnt manage to test 6s or 4s as crashed it on the waiting line lol. Not sure how the shock tower got taken out, Shock bent the front driveshaft too. Going to upgrade the tower to carbon fiber. Side skirts shattered, proto types none the less, thinking carbon fiber next time do it properly. Front splitter vaporised, needs carbon fiber i think next time. Overall very light damage and cheap to repair got off lucky really. First ever trophy...thanks little car well done!
Redback
Getting Rossa ready. The old "typhoon" will be sent again after considering passing it on, we got a new friend, "hurricane" another banzai. Reused the body from the hyper10 that wont be sent, retrofitted and chopped back. Typhoon is also ready to rock, back to the old gearing 4s setup, no 3d printed parts, just need to fabricate a front splitter with some chopping board.
