The CR3.4 SHERPA Scale Crawler is a high-end car loaded with technical features which are unusual for a “ready-to-run” vehicle.

FEATURES:

 

  • A realistic designed 5mm CNC machined aluminum frame with a heavy duty aluminum 4-link suspension system 
  • Oil-filled shock absorbers with internal springs, 5mm piston rods and shock boots provide a silky smooth and realistic response
  • Portal axles not only offer a greater distance from the differential housing to the ground than conventional axles, they also have another positive feature. With conventional crawlers, the torque applies so much force that the vehicle jumps over the obstacle. The design of the portal axles reduces the gear ratio at the wheels and virtually eliminates the torque surges of the drive. The overall reduction ratio of the axle drive is more than twice that of non-portal designs to insure a smooth run.
  • A unique hydraulic steering shock absorber design combined with a 9kg digital and waterproof steering servo
  • Hardened steel drive shafts and a steering angle of 45.8° offer the best possibilities to handle any terrain.
  • The CR3.4 SHERPA features a 2-speed transmission to conquer tough terrain and bring you also fast to the next obstacle. Just push a button on the radio and change from transmission ratio 1/37.1 (low speed) to 1/15.1 (high speed)
  • Lock and unlock the front and rear differential independently to get the maximum performance on the track – all controlled remotly from your tranmitter and 2x 0,9kg mini servos. Leave the differential unlocked for a smooth hadling at high speed. On tecnical trails you can lock the front differential, the rear differential or even both to handle extreme terrain. 
  • Aluminum motor mount and an adjustable slipper clutch provide a additional protection in extreme conditions. 
  • Hardened steel differential gears and drive parts 
  • The drive concept – powered by HOBBYWING contains a 60A waterproof brushed speed controller and a 550 motor. Set the jumper to setup your battery type (NiMH / LiPo) and drive mode ( forward / reverse / brake) 
  • 9kg digital steering servo and 3x 17g mini servos for gear transmission and differential lock/unlock – all servos are waterproof.
  • The 2.4 GHz 6-channel radio system gives you total control over your vehicle – wether lighting system, 2-speed gear, diff. locks or top speed adjustment.
  • Stylish 1.9″ beadlock wheels with aluminum rings and 10 bolt design. Super soft tires with a realistic sidewall flex for maximum traction on the rocks. Wheel size: 43×120 mm. 
  • Rock sliders and molded inner fender help to protect the chassis from dirt and damage.
  • Flip-Top body with magnetic lock and easy to open battery case.
  • 1.2mm PC bodyshell with many attachments.

Can't say for sure of course, but it looks like pretty good value. 

 

And on paper, a mix of TRX4 and SCX10.3 isn't bad either. Reasonably priced too, considering the gizmos (portals, switchable diffs, 2speed etc). Ever since my DBXL-E i've learned to love flip-tops too, so that's a bonus for me. 

 

Would want to see the shocks in action first, but in general, they've got my attention. Question being, do i fix my Trail King (shocks/shell) or do i try to sell the trail king as roller and get one of these. Hm. 

 

edit: though i'm with Reacher here - Jeeps are just too common nowadays, getting incredibly boring.

It looks like a gimmick filled dream on paper but there's so much stuff on the bottom side to get hung up on. Same problem as the Hobao crawler.

I would be tempted to sell my FS racing, along with the growing pile of shells (oops) and get this but 2 things put me of, Jeep shell and the remote locking diffs and stuff, so its close but no cigar i think i would still have thew Carisma sca F-150 over it

I don't really mind either way. I do like a chinese special every now and then, but usually they're cheaper. 

 

Only difference here to me is A: that the Yi Kong just looks arse (shell/wheels), and that with Absima on board, spares might be more readily available. Other than that, i wouldn't mind either way.

Yer, But is that such a bad thing, This hobby has a tendency to make up it's own words for class of cars, You get some that make a Rock Crawler, Stick a Land Rover body on it and say they have a scale crawler, No you don't, You've got a Rock Crawler with a Land Rover body on it, Stick a Ferrari body on a ford escort chassis, You don't have a Ferrari, The Kit car people learned that years ago.

So is it such a bad thing to have a scale crawler that gets hung up like the real thing, That's a bit complex to work on, Something you drive to it's limitations, I think it looks good, And it's 180 quid cheaper than the Traxxas, Which is a hell of a lot of money.

Problem is, I think like every other, It will fade in the shadow of the Traxxas and Axial, It won't be recommended or given a chance, Not here anyway, Sounds harsh, But you know it's true, The Underdog is always the underdog here.

Yes because it's an avoidable design choice. It looks nice other than that, even if it's got the similar gimmicks to the SCX10.3 and TRX4. I don't think anyone can recommend it over anything else until some reviews are in but given it's practically a whole 3rd less than the TRX4 it's probably a good buy so long as it holds up ok.  I still personally think both are just full of useless gimmicks.

My honest take on this, i dont want or need remote locking diffs, i really dont want multispeed transmission give me a rugged well made trans with rugged axles, decent drive shafts, what i am saying is no frills but strong and well made, and lets be different and move away from Jeep shells.

Which is the exact reason no one tries to innovate anymore, Just copy what sells and try to take a little bit of that cash flow, Scale crawling is full of  gimmicks, Why stick a winch on the front of your toy car when I  can walk over a pick it up.

I don't have a crawler, So don't really have a right to say, But if I want a scale crawler, I look at the word Scale, Looks like the real thing, Body roll like the real thing, Seals getting hooked up like the real thing, Low and high ratio like the real, I would assume that if I put a Land Rover body on this, It wouldn't be a Scale Crawler, Or maybe I'm in the minority and  the chassis doesn't matter, And Scale just means having a winch and a plastic shovel stuck to the side.

Is this our first rodeo about this? How do you think you come off if you tell people they're using crutches and/or gimmicks on their trucks? Not for the first or second time either, but pretty much in every thread that features portals? 

 

I'm not sure if you genuinely don't understand that or if you're purposely disingenuous now.
