@Andy-Roo Very nice build, looking good.

What brushless motor / esc are you thinking of using?

I'd probably take some of the arches, I always hate doing it but it's essential on a build like this.

If I'm honest I'd change the wheels to some steelies.

I’ve got a HW Fusion Pro that I bought to go in my SCX10 Pro, but I could use it in the Interceptor and get another for the Pro at a later date…if I like it. But swapping the brushed HH for HW feels wrong 🤣

Re the wheels; I’ve seen a set of Boom racing ones I like and also a set of Injora’s that are really nice. Not sure about steelies though, tbh I’ve not considered them. I’ll go have a look 👍

Nothing wrong with some of those brushed systems. 1080's are mint. I have a few of my lcg rigs brushed.

I love the fusion Pro, super smooth, but they are a bit noisy.

Injora do some nice wheels, I've recently picked up some with carbon centres they look cool. I think A.J has some on his Ecto.

I think the steelies give that offroader look. But bling wheels look good on a lcg build.

I’ve had a couple of 1080’s in the past but am now running the HH BRXL with a HH 27T Torque Master Pro, which is a sublime combo.
There’s nothing stopping me from trying the HW in the Interceptor, I can always swap in back to brushed if needed.

The only steelie looking wheels I’ve found that I like are Boom racing military look ones (it won’t let me post the link) mrCfup4.png

But they’re more then double the price of the Injora’s that I like.

Coming on nicely mate and agree it needs something at the back:good:

im not convinced a roll cage will do it tho

But what about a spare wheel mounted there at an angle ?

I’ve got a rear brace that’ll take a spare wheel, but it’s the weight up high that puts me off.  I have a Rock Pirates hard line bed that’ I got for my next build, that I could try to see how it looks on this. Hmmm, food for thought.

I'm the same, I don't like adding weight above. It took me about ten years before I could talk myself into a hard body build.

My last build was Yota hardbody, which I loved building (I chopped it, dented it and made it look rusty) but it weighed a ton! It’s difficult to strike a balance between a scale look and performance.

Fully agree with you.

@wombat mentioned a wooden bed. I keep meaning to build one.

Nice and light and can probably look quite good.

you could use a plastic wheel with a foam insert on it and a spare wheel cover ?

A lightweight wooden bed would look good, lolly sticks maybe 🤔

Two great ideas that have got the ‘ol grey matter thinking 👍

What about turning it into like a recovery truck kinda thing?

It’s the weight up high that I’m trying to avoid. Unless the boom was ultra light of course…3D printed plastic maybe. Also the departure angle needs to be at maximum so as not to sacrifice performance at all.  But it’s worth thinking about 👍

Exactly that, a plastic i beam, a bit of string and a hook

  • 3 weeks later...

Evening chaps,

Ive got an update…the new wheels and VP transmission arrived and both without any extras like import duty or handling fees. Result! 😁

All I’m waiting on now are the HCRC links, which have been made and shipped but are still on the wrong side of the Atlantic as I write this.
The wheels look spot on in my opinion, but I would say that, wouldn’t I 😂

The Boom Racing wheels are so well made and come with everything you need to build them (including scale hardware) in various offsets to suit the rigs they’re going on.

The VP 3 gear trans is Uber smooth and beautifully made.

I may take the battery tray out and run the battery up front next o the servo, but I need to figure out the rest of the layout first.  And as you can see I’ve decided to stick with the brushed setup for the time being…I can always go BL in the future if I want to.

Anyway, that’s it for now.

I really like them, think they’re gonna look even better what the shell is painted-not sure on the colour though…so many options 🤪

That's looking mint mate👍

Vp products are very nice.

I love those boom racing wheels. Seen them and thought I need a set of them.

I've fancied a rock pirates chassis for a while now. Your not helping with this and your other build you mentioned 😂. I was looking at a kraken chassis build, absolute quality, gorgeous engineering.

Really good to see more lcg rigs👍

Thanks mate!  VP make some lovely kit, very well made and joy to build.  I’m a bit of a fan of Boom Racing wheels, these are my 3rd set, and like VP they are really well made and look top notch.

My next build is going to be a RP Kraken pro on Capra axles. My original plan was to build a G-Speed G-Shot FS, but they never seem to have all the parts in stock, so after I got the RP Interceptor parts and saw how nice they are and that they have decent stock, I decided the Kraken was the way to go.  I’ve been gathering parts for little while now and don’t have much more get. I’ve got a great body for it..not the norm for Crawlers but I think it’ll work out well with some chopping about!

My apologies for being a bad influence 😂

I had a load of VP parts on my rr10. Just like you say, a joy to build and Beautiful finish.

The boom racing wheels are super scale looking, very nice choice.

I fancied building a gspeed, but I couldn't get hold of one.

I probably will build a rock pirates rig. The quality and finish looks top notch.

Looking forward to this kraken build.
