Popular Post supersavage
Don't know whether anyone would be interested in this but thought I'd create a thread anyway. I've been looking at real Africa Twins since I got my little CBR125R and to say I would like one if/when I pass my full test is a bit of a understatement. I was browsing various model shops for something to do probably like most people at the moment but didn't really want an rc as I'd have no where to use it. I started looking at static kits but didn't know what I wanted and came across this kit by chance and I just had to get it. This kit was a fair bit bigger than I was expecting and if I'm honest I'm a little bit intimidated by it as I want to build as best I can. I hadn't planned on starting it yet but temptation got the better of me and built as much of the engine as I can before having to get the airbrush out to prime and paint it and the rest of the components.

supersavage
Majority of the engine parts to be primed and painted I need to work out a way to prime and paint them without blowing them all over the place with the airbrush. Going to try and use cocktail sticks and blue tack and stick them in some foam, whether it'll work I don't know.

supersavage
All primed, not perfect but primed which wasn't a pain at all 🙄 Also think I'll have to get more black primer. Going to give it overnight to dry then I've got the fun task of painting it all.
supersavage
Started painting Really happy with the bronze colour however I had some trouble with the main engine block as the paint reacted and did some weird things, I think I managed to save it by giving it another light coat but it's something I'll have to watch out for on other parts. The other parts I'll be hand painting then I'll be giving everything a coat of various varnishes.

Popular Post supersavage
Engine is done for now as there's more bits that will go on when it goes into the frame. Not looking forward to what comes next which is the frame. Edited April 5, 2020 by supersavage 3
supersavage
To give you an idea of the size of the engine here's a pic of it next to a pint glass.

supersavage
Rear shock and center stand done. Not happy with the way the orange bump stop came out as my airbrush decided to play up while painting it. Also kind of surprised this kit has a center stand as its optional extra on the real bike.

supersavage
Wheel rims painted and drying. I'd like to have been able to remove the seem line down the middle of them but I don't have anything to be able to do it which is a little annoying. 2
Oh How Original
Looking fantastic Marc, super nice little model station you've got going. What airbrush are you using?

What airbrush are you using? This one https://elementgames.co.uk/paints-hobby-and-scenery/Airbrushes-accessories/cult-of-paint/evolution/cult-of-paint-evolution I really like it as it's really easy to use and strip down to clean it. I did try an iwata one (can't remember what one) but this seems to have far more control and feels so much better to use than the iwata I tried. It's also perfect for batch painting and painting larger things. I really need to get an rc body to try it on as I think it'll be great for painting them. 1
