Vkar Bison owners thread

Recommended Posts

Fairly new to RC, but I just purchased the Vkar Bison v2 (brushless) truggy. Purchased from Gearbest (currently has a flash sale): http://www.gearbest.com/rc-cars/pp_469540.html

There's really not a lot of info about this car on forums but there's some really positive videos about this:

And according to this video:

The Bison has the same platform as the more popular Helion Four 10TR. So while you can get cheap parts replacements from Gearbest, you can also get parts locally for the 10TR.

Anyway, should arrive in a couple of weeks time so will report back on what I think (although my only other experience with an RC is a Schumacher Menace 21). I'm still pretty much a beginner though.

Yes, I have got this. I believe I have the v2 (that's what the Gearbest product page said). Not actually sure how to verify I have v2 as I don't know what the difference was from v1.

Unfortunately, I've not taken it out to try yet. I've bought better batteries (as the included one is under powered). I also need to change out the connectors so I'm waiting for a friend to help with the soldering for that. I might be able to take it out this weekend though.

Yes, will try to get some photos and videos up. No, I didn't order any spares. I don't have much experience to make any comparisons but I can say on it's own merits that it does feel very solid. All the parts are very chunky and the build quality seems great. Looking forward to taking it out this weekend (weather permitting).

Sorry, wasn't able to take it out at all. I needed to solder xt90 connections to the battery, charger leads and the ESC. However, it wasn't the best job because the connections warped. In hindsight, I should have ensured I had both ends of the connectors attached before I soldered but I didn't have enough connectors to correct it. I managed to wiggle the charging lead onto the battery with a little more force than ideal but I couldn't do anything to get the fully charged battery on the ESC so no joy.

Seeing as I needed to order new connectors, I've taken the opportunity to buy Amass dean connectors. I've seen this from someone else and they are really silk smooth to connect and disconnect. I'll make sure I have both ends attached when I solder so they don't warp either but still waiting for those connectors to arrive. All being well, I should be able to take it out this weekend.

I can try to get some photos of things tonight but it's pretty much exactly the same as what is on youtube such as:

The only difference is the controller which just looks visually different.

Is it brushless??

You'll have fun with melting deans plugs if so...

You may be ok for a while, but they don't last long..

Why does a brushless motor matter? Surely it's about how much power is going through the wires (sustained and peak). If they are below the threshold what the plugs can take then it's fine.

Just watched that guys 'review'

Truck seems ok, looks like a good runner...Although I'm still apprehensive over parts longevity....But that's where you come in, this reviewer was lacking in technical knowledge...

Get it bashed hard...!!! And let us know how you get on

Yeah, there are some parts available on Gearbest but the car uses the same platform as Helion Four 10TR so parts are identical and they are easier to get hold of in local area:

Check this video out:

As for bashing it hard, I'm quite a big beginner. I'm probably not going to be bashing it that hard (certainly not this soon). If you want to see it thrown around then here's a good video:

Without waffling into technical jargon....

For your wires/connectors it's all about resistance..

The brushless setup, allthough technically more efficient in terms of power displacement , tend to generate more heat due to... motor wanting higher A draw, increased rpm over brushed, longer run times from lipos, ESC requesting high A from high discharge lipo...

(We won't go into gearing as it's the same on b. Or b.less)

All this current obviously goes through your wires, which is why having a wider gauge wire and good connectors will help carry the current with less resistance...Less resistance = less heat.

As for your deans connectors

if you look at the deans design compared to say the XT range of plugs the first thing you'll notice is that the deans design is completely enclosed once connected.... so After a 20min full on bash run you'll find the deans plugs have melted the casing internally at the connection points (the point where resistance is high)

The XT range provide less resistance, some also have an air gap around the connection points, thus reducing heat build up...And no melted plugs

Okay, so just a quick update on this. I managed to take the car out last weekend, being a beginner, I wasn't doing anything other than tearing it up in a grassy open park. I wasn't doing any jumps or anything and even the top speed of the car was too much as it would instantly wheelie at max throttle. I dialled it down a bit so I could full throttle the car without it doing a wheelie (and it was still very very fast).

My little 5 year old boy was able to play with it also when I had the speed turned down to it's lowest setting (in fact, the lowest speed setting was a bit boring for him so I had it dialled up a notch). Therefore, the range of speed restriction is extremely wide and would cover pretty much anyone. I can't really tell but it seemed like acceleration also scaled with the limit so having it at half way, didn't feel like it was using maximum acceleration to the speed limit.

Overall a very good car. I was using it with a 5000mAh 3S battery so it had plenty of punch and sufficient running time. After the first battery finished (30 to 40 mins or running time) it was really hot on the underside of the car where the motor was. My 2nd spare battery couldn't be used as the soldered connector had come off but to be honest, I was fairly happy with my 30 to 40 min run of the car.

If anyone is wanting videos of extreme bashing then you will have to look elsewhere. Being a beginner, this is not something I'll be doing any time soon and further it's quite difficult for me to video and control the car at the same time (read: not really gonna happen). There are quite a lot of videos of extreme bashing on YouTube for this car (see some of the videos I posted above). The car is completely identical to those videos so not sure what else would be determined by bashing videos from me even if I was somehow able to do this.

Hope this helps and happy to answer any questions that are within my ability. Thanks

Thanks for all this info. I've only got my phone to record things and didn't have anything to mount it with. I've just purchased a cheap phone clamp which has a tripod connector, I can then use a small gorilla tripod stand and will hopefully be able to get some footage without having to use my hands. (Might have to place it on a box).

I'll try to get some footage soon but it's not gonna be anything amazing (certainly no jumps).
