About to replace original motor with Hobbywing 4990 1650kv. Started to think about gearing... What would you guys recommend? I did some calculations:

So stock motor with 50/18 gearing should have the same speed as hobbywing with 54/14. Its a bit hard to understand motor power when we only have kv. If i gear them both to run at the same speed - hobbywing one should have way more power just by mechanical advantage? But can we know/calculate motors pure torqe?

Hey guys,

Looking for battery advice...

I've decided to buy the Gens Ace D300 charger so will also buy their Lipos too...

I can get the bashing series 4s 5000mah 60C for €50 each or 4s 6800mah 120C for €83 each.

I'm considering buying 2 pairs of the 5000's which, in my mind, seems to be better value for money but I wonder if there is a reason to choose the larger capacity over the 5000.

They're for a brand new, unmodified Xmaxx with standard tyres, not belted.

Cheers guys.

the higher mah capacity will give a longer runtime also the higher c rating will give more punch and allow more power to be taken out the battery when accelerating

your probably better of buying extra 5000mah bats as it will work out cheaper in long run

Is it normal for the Xmaxx to feel "notchy" when the power is off and you try roll it forward and back? Like it judders when I roll it.

I was expecting it to be smooth and roll more freely...

That's static torque, it's caused by the magnets in the motor being extremely strong. Perfectly normal.

Hello 🙂

Does any one use this on there X maxx ? and any downsides to it 🤔, seems it cannot hurt plus little space for the extra bearing anyway but traxxas put nothing in it to support front of spur gear shaft.

Been reading / watching videos on X maxx since getting one absorbing all the knowledge on new toy 🤓 and seems 50/50 some folk have trouble with pinion & spur gear stripping and some not.

Why do you want to remove the Cush Drive?

As far as I can make out this gpm one works with the cush drive, shows in the pics on gpm website it fits with the stock plastic cush drive housing.

Not that I wanna get rid of the cush drive for how big this thing is I want all the drive line protection I can get 😄

Checked the GPM website it only shows the metal cush drive so I dunno if it fits stock set up 🤣, guess I'll get on YouTube see whats cracking.

Dont buy that metal cush, its ultra sloppy, the only time i have damaged spur and pinion is when the rubber bit in the cush was really worn, i always run hardened pinion and spur, got them from ali, they were cheap and cannot fault them.

For me its diffs, i just have no luck with them, i went through a spate a year anyway ago where i must have changed the rear one 10 times and then it was just fine for about a year, not too long ago i went out and managed to kill every diff on the truck, since i have changed them so far so good……… then you hear of the next person had the truck 4 years and have never replaced a diff, i dont know. But yea i still run mine

I keep reading horror tales of X Maxxes lasting one run before something going wrong and others run for years without a fresh bearing 😆. I will just use it like the rest of my RCs and see what needs doing when things go pop.  I will keep an eye on the cush drive wear and replace when needed as the one in my Maxx is worn down too nothing so I will order up some spares at the same time 😃

Hello 😃,

My tyre foams are ****ed been out about 5 times with the X maxx and the foams are shot 🙄, bone dry days no crap got in them just started to fall apart inside the tyre 🙈.

I will get round to un gluing the stock set and putting my own foams in and keep them as spares.

Don't feel like throwing money at another pair of traxxas kit and the same happing again, so what wheels / tyres do you guys run? and what weight are they as I am trying keep this big ol'thing as light as I can.

Ohhh good few of these Louise wheels 😀 I'll have a proper look when I get home, are they a direct fit no adaptors or anything needed 🤔.
