Yes theyre are negatives. Steering is worse and as you said you ideally need a better servo. I run Dmond 60kg ones in both my Xmaxx & XRT. You dont need the Wide Kit, and to be honest its expensive for what it is.

Those shells are from Russia, so obviously difficult to get hold of now since the war. They’re basically made out of a wheelie bin. Checkthe Youtube Videos

I cant find that Servo 😞

I def need another Servo, turning of standard one is terrible!

What volt are you running through your receiver, i hear 8+ V will fry it (assuming you are using the standard traxxas receiver.

Do you have any Servo recommendations (unless you know of a place to buy the Dmond)

https://www.monsterhopups.de/HSPEED-HSP0025-HSX501-Monster-Torque-Digital-Servo-72kg-X-Maxx-XRT-Maxx beast compared to Traxxas 2085X . Running it with the stock receiver, so its only at its minimal power, but difference is huge - speed and power!

I dont run the stock Radio in my XMaxx so I run higher voltage BEC. However, I run the same servo in my XRT with stock radio and thats only running 6.0v and its great.

Doesmt have to be a DMond, but Im sure theres similar on Ali Express etc. Bare in mind youll need adapters/servo horn to run a standard servo in an X Maxx

Okay that makes sense, i was thinking of an external BEC but my ESC goes up to 8.4 so its such a waste to do so, my receiver is holding me back in that regard, maybe a dumbo would be in order. but im not going there just yet.

Are these Servos fully compatible with the TSM system, im seeing people having issues with that with a variety of servos .

Lastly, because of the rabbit hold i seem to falling down, i was thinking of just waiting for the TRX 2085R to become available in a few weeks (hopefully). they are supposed to be very good and made for X sized cars. Benefit is they are plug and play, no cutting or trimming.

Yea Im running higher BEC through my ESC not an external one. Not heard of any issues with TSM. I dread to think how much the 2085R will be?

I am running an external bec in mine with an 80kg servo at 8.4v, seems to work very well. Mine is the brand that has the little tractor on the casing

This is the servo i have, you can get it on aliexpress for about £40 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/296173606053?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=ofxqbxantho&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=MRHag3XmRgm&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

this gives you everything you need to install it, again aliexpress is way cheaper https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/374001872230?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=hrl_7iplths&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=MRHag3XmRgm&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

I am using this ubec, i put it in a balloon to keep the water of it https://wheelspinmodels.co.uk/i/339471/

a male and female jst plug, 1 which i soldered onto the wire from the bec and 1 which i soldered onto the plugs from the esc https://wheelspinmodels.co.uk/i/70627/ and https://wheelspinmodels.co.uk/i/70628/

And a servo bypass lead https://www.modelsport.co.uk/product/443152

i think all in i was about £90, but you dont have to have the ubec, jst connectors and bypass lead and just run it from the receiver at 6v with just less torque, but will still be a lot more than the stock servo

Wow, this is amazing, i will read through this today, is your motor compatible with the TSM system in the receiver? i actually find it to be useful so wish to keep

Edit: Ive ordered it and the fitting kit, went with the 180 degree servo.  Hopefully should arrive in a couple weeks, ill be doing the BEC install, i think with these, im not expecting to get the full claimed 80KG at max volts so im going to power it up to get the best from it instead of underpowering it at 6v

Can you give me a more detailed guide on how you wired it up because finding videos on youtube is tricky as they are all a decade old or being wired up in ways that make no sense.

You totally lost me with the jst connectors.

I would have thought you just connect the positive from the ubec to the positive ESC cable, the negative to the negative ESC cable, the other end go to the Bypass Adapter, then you just plug it all in so im lost with the JST part. Can you help me understand please, if you can show a pic of yours that would help me understand too!

Thanks

If you look on my thread its on page 1

you solder the jst onto those (i went for the male as i thought it was safer) 2 wires and then solder the other jst onto the ubec so if ever in the future you change the ubec its just plug and play, hope that makes sense, i will do i wiring diagram just now for you

There is in and out wires from the ubec so in is from the battery connectors (battery voltage so 8s in this case) and out is your 8.4 volts which goes to your servo bypass wiring which in turn goes to your receiver and servo, think of it like this the servo is getting its signal what to do from the receiver and getting its 8.4 power from the ubec, there has to be a common ground (the -) as otherwise it wont work

Sir, you're a star. Diagram makes sense. Only thing im wondering is where is the cable that goes from the ESC to the Receiver? The one where you'd normally cut the power wire.

Thank you for explaining the JST, that all makes sense now, appreciated for linking me to your post too, you did some very good upgrades. Im wondering if ill end up needing the widemax as i really CBB to have it tip over 100 meters away from me, that will get annoying fast but thats a problem for another day.

Yeah i get you, i think ill have to meditate on this a little bit to build the mental imagery but its all making sense now. Had no idea BECs were so involving but its got to be done as the standard servo really is bad.

On the xmaxx there isint a power cable to power auxilary circuits, well there is but its some dumbo traxxas connector that costs like a bijjilon pounds and goes to the traxxas lighting module, this way is a lot cheaper and works equally as well.

the lead from the esc just goes to the receiver as normal for its signal and to power the receiver (red white and black) you dont need to do anything with that, leave it as is

That looks great but too expensive for me to justify 😞

I can donate this 2085X for shipping cost + some change if that helps you out? 🙂

Thanks! That would have worked too but ive ordered everything now, the Servo, fixings and cables.  How much change would you like for it? Once ive got all my bills taken care of, i may still be able to buy it off you as a backup Servo.
