Yep lot's being cut down here locally in South Wales for new home developments etc. Ridiculous, disgusting and enraging.

Then you get the idiots who will then say; "well it's okay they're planting one million new trees", ...where over half of those probably won't even reach full maturity and it will be decades before the ones that do make it to maturity will even contribute to the health of the planet as much as the ones previously cut down. ☹️

That's definitely random @LunsfordRich:lol:

Totally agree with you about that mate. They started last spring felling our wood, calling it "phase 1" (right at the beginning of nesting). Replanting was supposed to happen late last year.....never happened!! Same again this year..(phase 2) it's really heartbreaking to see, Totally disgusting 😢

Same thing trees are !!!! infected dieing !!!   so let them   if nature say kill the tree then it's a reason for it  it die and go back to the land . Chopping hundreds down an leaving stumps  is not right

Unless its for building sites, the reason for the felling of thousands of trees nationally is to prevent a disease from spreading to the other trees.

If they just sit back and do nothing then that particular type of tree will not exist, in the entire UK.

They do sometimes instead split the bark in a few places and insect a liquid which is effective in stopping the disease, but they cannot do this if the trees are close to a river, stream etc, or if there is an underground watercourse which would lead to the death of any pondlife etc.

So yes, they do need to fell huge areas of some woods and forests.  It looks devastating but it is the best way.

OK , but in the cases mentioned, it seems that it's a case of building by stealth. As l said, the site is owned by Younger homes  who bought the site of a former hospital & are desperate to build new homes on it now ! Something doesn't smell quite right to me !!!!

Yea it'll be because of the disease.

I couldn't remember the name of the fungus so I looked it up, Phytpophthora ramorum

And its mainly Larch trees that it destroys.

Around here, pretty much entire woods have disappeared.
