ashleysmith
Well... I broked it... Nah not really Just fitted my 23 tooth mod 1 pinion... Doesn't seem to be much faster though, but that may be down to the limits on the motor? So I have a 9t brushless setup arriving (I hope) tomorrow so should be mega fast then

So I have a 9t brushless setup arriving (I hope) tomorrow so should be mega fast then That should make it shift, if not i have a insanely quick 3.5 tekin redline motor that would go nice in there . What 9t setup u got coming.? Hobbywing? Edited May 27, 2012 by micksid
ashleysmith
It's an etronics v1 I believe (bought it from a member on here last week, but have since forgotten the exact brand) hoping to be able to get it all fitted and set up tomorrow Next on my list is some tyres to suit sandy conditions Possibly fit the flysky Tx and rx to it too (if I can figure out what's going on with it as it seems to glitch when I put it in the buggy but works fine in the drifter... Highlander
Yea that Maverick motor wont have much power in it, Going brushless with an Ezrun kit or something will give you greater speeds, They are quite cheap on ebay and do the job just fine for what they are. ashleysmith
Well... I'm on holiday and I've not actually used it properly, although I did end up in a model shop here in liskeard and after a bit of a convo with the nice owner I have come to the route of my speed issues.... Over gearing... Yay... So I bought some new gearing, and had a spur of the moment idea for a motor mount... So when I get back to my laptop I'm gonna hit up some CAD and take it to work and make it (hopefully you guys will get to see some of my designs and production kit at the MSUK jam)

Ziggy122
love it! Wish i still had my Rush evo running - now its just on the shelf clean and never to be used again *sad moment* My curiosity tho with putting brushless in - is the diff, the middle gears were made of cheese.... so easily stripped Will it handle brushless? ashleysmith
It's funny you say that ziggy, I've just changed the gearing and popped in a 23t motor, and sheared the gears.... FML comes to mind... Sooo.... I've just bought the firestorm 10t gearbox to replace it... Edited June 17, 2012 by ashleysmith

Tank2702
I love this. So glad a came across it. I have a rush Evo knocking around the shed doing nothing. This has definitly made me want to convert it to electric.
ashleysmith
Do it bud.... I'm still "playing" with mine to get it right, but it's more me being cheap and not upgrading to brushless and lipos....
ashleysmith
Update.... Gone back to the black chassis, the Alu used in the silver chassis was a bit too soft, so ive adapted the black chassis Also gone brushless too :-) Cut a little bit more from the upper deck section, to allow the battery to fit Will be making some battery holders from sheet metal tomorrow :-)
ashleysmith
Battery tabs in place :-) need to make a slot for the velcro
rutteger
Bought this, thought I'd update Ashley's thread rather than starting a new one given I'm not sure as to what my plans are with the car. Installed an ESC and motor and got the car running. Also tidied some of the existing work. Seems to run well enough, may have to adjust the motor mount at some point and gearbox fixing. Think the gearbox and rear shock tower (Firestorm afaik) fitted sits higher than the stock Rush items and as such put the rear end geometry out slightly. rutteger
For a project I intended to spend zero time on I've ended up spending some time on it. Ended up modding the chassis slightly to ensure the gearbox could sit flush. Had to ease out the recess for the Rush gearbox, guess the tab on the Firestorm box is larger. This allows the gearbox to sit flush. Which then allows the rear suspension to sit far more sensibly. Like this. Yes, I know I should've stripped the chassis to stop the filings getting everywhere... Also used bigger bolts on the motor mount and adjusted it slightly. Everythings seems to be holding well enough currently.

George Clegg
A little late to the party but I've just finished my Rush electric conversion too. Basic tests are excellent and I'm looking forward to the weekend when I can give it a proper run outdoors. Greetings from Glasgow :)

Greetings from Glasgow 🙂 Not gonna lie, I do have a super soft spot for the rush evo, it was my first! Just wonder how the diff/gearbox is gonna hold up? cause those middle gears were fu....rs for stripping... often taken the diff teeth with it.... How you finding parts? as afterall it's been discontinued for quiet a while now 😞

Seems to hold up on 2S very well though I have tuned my controller to be quite gentle with the throttle. No scary noises whatsoever even after a couple of battery packs (best ort of an hour on the gravel and on the skatepark). I do recall breaking everything on my original around 20 years ago, but I'm older and wiser now 🙂 Here's some footage from the gravel...
