iPad 2 not working!

i got an iPad 2 for christmas and I have been using it everyday since then and I really like it, its handy to have around the house. But today, I was playing a game on it, I put it down for about a minute to check something and when I come back it was turned off. I tried to turn it on and it goes on to the loading screen with the apple logo, freezes and goes to a black screen, and then comes back on with the apple loading screen. This goes on continuously and the only way to stop it is by holding down both buttons (power button and home button) to make it turn off. I can't plug it into the computer or anything to restore it because the computer won't recognise it because its still in the loading screen. It had some charge left in it (15%) but nothing that would make it turn off so suddenly.

Just wanted to know if any of you have experienced this type of thing before and any advice on how to fix it. It was bought from John Lewis with a 2 year warrenty so i'm just wondering if they would redeem the siutuation there and then or just give me a new iPad?

they will tell you (if its the same as iphones) to go straight to apple (do you have an apple store near you?) you book an appointment on tinternet then you go in, they check using some funky scanning iphones and will probably just give you a brand new one, like they did with my iphone

You need to hold top button for three seconds,

Then hold home button with the top button, count to ten, it will flick off and go to a black screen.

After ten count release top (power button) but carry on holding home for 30seconds.

This will put it in DFU mode and itunes will say "device in recovery mode"

Then restore :)

Omg cheers mate! its working! :) I must not of been pressing the buttons long enough for it to work. Thanks again and a happy new year to everyone.

I'd probably still take it back and ask for another. Should you have to recover a new iPad? No way.

I didn't have to recover, it just went to the home screen straight away and continued as if nothing had happened. Do you think its normal though for that to happen? Should I still question it?

yea the software is the latest out of the box. I'm going to give john lewis and apple a call tomorrow and ask if its a common fault. Cheers for the advice anyway guys, really appreciate it. :)

looks like someone beat me to it but yeah you need to put it into DFU mode so it can be restored

hold home and power for 10 sec

release power and continue to hold home for 10-15 sec it will restart and show the "plug into itunes" logo

plug her into the pc rtestore and update to latest software then restore old apps ect from backup :)

that is also part of the way to unlock the iphones (its slightly more complicated now with the baseband upgrades)

but inted of running it in itunes you use a program like redsn0w/blacksn0w/pineapple express/ultra sn0w/yellowsn0w (diferent ones for diferent firmawares/basebands) to modify a firmwarefile then update with that one and boom you have a hacked iphone then you use cydia to download the ultrasn0w source wich unlocks it :) damn i miss doing that stuff :/

I spoke to apple customer support who were really helpful and they said that it can happen sometimes. They think that its happened because I have been continually using it from out of the box without turning it off and just putting it into sleep mode. Anyway, they gave me a reference number so that if it happens again then I can just take it to an apple shop and get it sorted. Everything is working the way it should be now :)
