I popped my ESC on the last outing. Doing donuts on 3s on a 60amp ESC was asking for trouble 😂

 

So I've stripped down and cleaned the car, and installed a 120amp Banggood ESC. Probably wouldn't have been anyones first choice, but my mate offered it to me for free, and you can't argue with that price!

 

Unfortunately, as it's quite a bit bigger than the old ESC, I've had to move the receiver back up onto the upper plate. I still think it looks quite tidy though.

 

 

 

 

 

The new ESC could do with setting up. Its launch is really soft, but the programming card I've got doesn't seem to work for this ESC.

 

I'm back up and running now anyway! 😁

Tonight's weapons of choice;

 

 

The Baja was last to be ran, faultless and huge fun. Some fairly big air, six to seven feet, took it no problem. 

 

The Kyosho Scorpion XXL VE was superb, more air than I should of, but no breakages and just a great drive. 

 

The old Ally-Maxx was true to form, jumped great, popped wheelies and was a laugh. And makes such a great sound. 

 

Only cost tonight was one body-clip. I can live with that.

Out of nowhere pulled the 5ive out of a 5 year hibernation, initially would not start, quickly solved, the coil had dropped. Then wired up the Dark Soul twin servo direct power harness and got it correct the first time…😂.

My local raceway has had no activity this year, thought it had closed for good, but found last night it will be back up and running next week, I had no prior knowledge before getting the 5ive, spooky or what…..😮😃😎

Glad it's not just me that keeps them even when they're not getting used. Once I've got a car personalised to my needs, I'm reluctant to sell.

A nice RC filled weekend with a session yesterday morning with the old man where we ran 6 x cars in the morning.  A very good session as all 6 cars came back with no breakages or even a loss of a single body clip!

 

Fitted the replacement parts for the Big Rock and took it out for an early test this morning and I am pleased to say that it worked .  Wasn't 100% confident as the transmission is noisy at the best of times and I had to hammer on the bearings to the input gear with a socket nut to get the things on!  Not sure if anyone else has had to do similar with the 3s Arrmas??

Dont tell anyone, but its a Killerbody prepainted/finished body, that’s why you need more offset on the wheels, it has better proportions than the Tamiya version 😬

It is a really great looking body.  My roof spoiler lasted at least 10 minutes before I traction rolled and snapped it into 3 bits 😣

Managed to finish the LC PTG-2R

The decals aren’t perfect and probably took 6 months off my life expectancy 😁 It needs some dirt and scuffs on it now

That looks amazing!  Is that the Tamiya Cosworth body?  Did it drop straight on without messing with the arches too much?

Cheers mate 🍻  it’s an L&L models body.

It’s a decent shell and a little thicker I thought than the Tamiya stuff but  doesn’t quite have the same level of detail especially in the decal department. 

Fits on the LC perfect no messing as long as you set the front arms to the shortest wheelbase setting and trim the bumper foam 👍🏻

Re greased the transmission and center diff on the LMT as the stuff that losi used oozed out of the casings with the warm weather.

 

 

Will do the front and rear another day. 

 

I can also see it being up for sale towards the end of the week if not the week after and it's not because I don't like it, I just think I need a break from RC. Plus I want to get into another hobby as well as getting some other bits and pieces sorted, mainly try and get an oil and filter change done on the Navara.

I only found out about L and L yesterday funnily enough an advert came up on Instagram. I noticed they do a 250 GTO, wonder what that looks like mounted?

Took the Scorpion out again, definitely making a bad noise, but I can't pinpoint it. It's not the diff, not the spur, so could be the gearbox about to munch itself. Or it always made that noise and I've forgotten?

 

The Savvy was dusted off and saw some proper air, forgot just how good that thing is! Handles like a dream, jumps like a champ. I built a good truck, FROM THE GROUND UP! I've never done that before, eight long years ago. 

 

Didn't lose any body clips! Get me! Whoop!

Crazy its been that long, Id expect a new one by now however:

 

A) its Traxxas, they get decades out of a truck

B) They dont really need a new X Maxx

C) I cant afford one anyway

ESC swap on the Savvy. 

 

Not without its issues! The replacement ESC has a borked BEC, so last time it was used it had a Castle 10 Amp external BEC connected. Figured I'd test everything on this old ESC and its associated BEC before starting. Connected a battery to the ESC for a simple test fire and snap, crackle, pop! The Castle BEC lets go! Smoke out, dead as!

 

Anyway, had an external BEC on the Savvy already because the MGM ESC is an opto unit, no internal BEC. Swap complete, calibrated the ESC, test run tomorrow. 

 

Spare body clips at the ready.

and repaired the MT10 after a wheel came off on its first outing and lost a hex pin, swapped to nyloc nuts in the process  🙈
