Keep it all in a warm dry location. Wait 3 months. Then have a look at them again. if they're still not of interest they're already packed up ready to start selling 2 Quote

SimplyChunk Posted August 14, 2024 Posted August 14, 2024 Finally got the Pirates 3 apart to see what was binding that front wheel.. ..not good news Looks like one of the ends of the CVJ has broken off. Luckily I have in stock 2 sets of the hardened version of these so there will be no waiting around for spares. However.. ..one of my shocks has literally let go as I was pulling it apart 😠 I will give it to it though. It's had some serious abuse since i've had it.. ..Look at the bottom of the bent chassis 🫢 For a 3s Chassis running 6s capable hardware on 4s it's standing up quite well. especially when i see you guys with your £1000+ xmaxxs and arrmas still having breakages and parts hauls. (no offence ment just an observation) 3 Quote
SimplyChunk Posted August 15, 2024 Posted August 15, 2024 So...not had this problem since @Skyesgaming last visited.... My 'thing' is too wide for the damned hole!! With it so late i can't really drive it home. It's literally like the paints width to wide too 😠 Guess I'll be extracting it and rubbing it down with some sand paper on my next day off 🙄 Much better quality metal in these hardened CVJs compared to the stock ones though. When I do the other side I'll post a side by side of them 2 Quote
SimplyChunk Posted August 17, 2024 Posted August 17, 2024 (edited) Ok so got the wheel hub carrier out of the bearing. Good news. Bad news I decided to do a test fit of the hex before committing to sanding down the hub carrier and it turns out it needs a bigger grub screw then I have with the model 😞 So.. Here's the plan. Here's the old hub carrier from the broken CVJ Here's it's insides.. I'm going to extract this pin Then this pin once I can do some proper banging. Then attach the old hub carrier to the new hardened shaft. Happy days. Then as a reward.. ..I get to do it on the other side all over again when that breaks 🙄. I don't know why these parts are different but I guess that's an advantage to properly imported models Edited August 17, 2024 by SimplyChunk formatting 1 Quote
SimplyChunk Posted August 19, 2024 Posted August 19, 2024 no pics cause i got excited and rebuilt the corner but...swapping the hub carriers worked! I had to remove the small pin and that allowed me to take the thick pin out. then it was just a case of putting the old hub carrier on and using my pliers to press the small pin back in to it with the new shaft 🙂 Happy days! Now just gotta rebuild one shock that popped and she's good for another bashing 😄 The Pirates lives on 🤣 1 Quote
Popular Post Partydaz Posted August 19, 2024 Popular Post Posted August 19, 2024 Took the crawlers Riverside RC. My Dad got to drive my bronco as the new tyres on his Coyote couldn't get grip, I think being a light truck and stiff tyres not a good combo 😅 6 Quote
steephill Posted August 19, 2024 Posted August 19, 2024 @Partydaz That looks a grand place to take the crawlers 👍 I'll have to check that place out. The rock crawl section looks proper. 2 Quote

That rock crawl section is the little one down by the river they got a right big wall going on from easy too deffo going hear that crawler clang and rattle as it tumbles to your feet hard section 🙂, I cringe every time and await the damage report 😆 my crawler shells are covered in rock scars. Riverside RC Complex - Google Maps for anyone who is nearby and wants to pop down. they have a Facebook page so you can message on that see when open etc. Edited August 19, 2024 by Partydaz added stuff 3 1 Quote
SimplyChunk Posted August 20, 2024 Posted August 20, 2024 So I took the other corner apart on the Pirates. There's nothing wrong with the CVJ on this side but i might as well change it for a hardened version while I'm diagnosing the shock leak. Here's the side by side I promised of the old CVJ (on left) and new one (on right) Sorry it's a little blurry. It's still quite clear how much thicker the new shafts are 🙂 I'm going to be doing the same to this shaft as I did with the other one. Taking the hub carrier off both and swapping the old one for the new one. 1 Quote
SimplyChunk Posted August 21, 2024 Posted August 21, 2024 rebuilt the front quarter that wasn't broken on the Pirates. Just wanted to swap in the hardened shaft for piece of mind cause the old style of shaft was bound to go at some point. I still don't understand what broke the other side. I didn't crash it or anything the front wheel just locked up all of a sudden 🤷♂️ Any who it's done now. Here's the front end with those big fat shafts in. Now I just got to find the matching dog bones for the rear XD. Shock is still weeping a bit even after rebuilding it. So I've ordered the parts to rebuild the shock properly I don't think it's gonna stop me showing it off to @Skyesgaming when she visits though. If she's nice I might even let her have a go 😉 2 Quote

TommyC Posted August 21, 2024 Posted August 21, 2024 Done some diy mods to the baja flux today. Gorilla taped the insides of the tyres and added some Velcro straps to the battery compartment. I had to remove the outer beadlock after I took this pic so I could slide the tyre on as it wouldn’t fold on itself with the tape on. So looks like it should help to some extent. 2 Quote
