Hi again guys. Got a new OWB for the GST, couldnt get the engine off so i took the back end off and replaced the OWB, put the car back together and crossed my fingers, wooohoooo started like a dream.......... applied throttle and engine rev'd its nuts off but this damn car dont move. Any ideas what is wrong with this damn truck now?

P.s. i turned the idle down a touch because it seemed high and i am sure the car started to move before it cut out if that helps.

Cheers again guys.

You need to approach the problem in a systematic way. You know the engine is running.....and when you apply throttle, the revs rise...so now you need to check what else is moving.

1) Clutch.

Clutch shoes should move out and engage on teh clutchbell to transfer drive. If the clutchbell spins when you rev up....good. If it doesn't, the motor needs to come out and the clutchbell needs to come off to see what has happened to the clutch. Something couild be broken or jammed there.

2) If hte clutch spins, look where the power goes next. If you have a slipper clutch on the spur gear, check to see if that is gripping or slipping. If it's slipping try adjusting it up tighter. If it still won;t grip, you may have to replace the slipper pad/spur gear.

3) Gearbox/diffs

If drive goes into the gearbox, does it come out again! Check if any driveshafts rotate. If a diff or diff outdrives are loose, failed or whatever, then you can end up driving nowhere.

4) Lastly check the wheels. The hexes should be in good order on all 4 wheels.

SOmewhere along the drivetrain lies the issue.

Thanks for the reply mate. I am not to clued up on what part is what. The clutch bell spins freely one direction but bites the other. When it bitse it engages the cogs next to it and turns the wheels. Should this be happening?

Cheers

Hmmmmmmmmmm got a sneaky feeling it might be the forward/reverse servo sticking. Can i just stick it into forward and disconnect?

Cheers.

Also when i push the car (not running) should it run freely one direction but not the other?

my mate savage did that if you get stuck between forward and reverse then its like a car being in nuteral it won't move! if you don't use the reverse and if you can you should take the whole reverse module out saves wieght too.

The thing you need to check is whether the clutchbell rotates when you rev the engine. For a 2-speed, what you are seeing is quite normal. There will be a one-way bearing in the gearbox that causes the effect. Where you have a centre diff driven directly by the clutchbell, this doesn;t happen.

If, with the engine running, revving up the motor causes the clutch bell to turn that will tell you if your clutch is actually engaging or not.

It is also worth playing with the forward reverse...I took the reverse module out of my Savage for exactly that reason. The linkage used to creep until you lost drive. As it was awkward to get to and required a bit of time to sort it was a real session killer! As I hardly ever used reverse anyway, I pulled it out and sold the unit and linkage on.

I don;t think it's as simple as just being able to remove it ... but you sould be able to manually operate the linkage to test. I am not sure how it operates on your truck.
