anyone had a thunder tiger mt4 g3?

I have ordered my MT4 G3 today, should be delivered 2moro!! YAY!

I have owned and abused a MTA4 S28 - I have learnt despite the smoke and engine revs, nitro is not for me!

Any upgrades that i should be looking at for the G3? or is it pretty good out of the box?

Like most trucks i have had i would get some spare arms and body posts because these tend to break eventually.I have cracked a couple of the hinge-pin holders so aluminium ones are on my want list(although you get spares in the box). Threadlock any screws that go into metal including the wheel hex`s and cover the inside of the shell with gaffa tape to strengthen it - this makes it surprisingly durable. If you decide to re-program the esc the brakes are set on 75% which is way too much: turn down to at most 50% but 25% still works well. When programming, keep the set button held for longer than the 3 secs it says in the manual and do it with the wheels OFF and the truck raised off the floor because i made a few mistakes initially and the truck revved up and flew off the bench! I know what you mean about nitro,i love the simplicity of brushless ,turn on and go.If you want any more info put up a post.

Thank you for your reply Bueller, much appreciated.

I shall take great care to threadlock everything before i take it out for a run. I am hoping to have a play with it this weekend but sometimes real life takes over and i may not get a chance to run it till next weekend!

Any reccomendations on batteries & chargers? im looking for somethign that will give me good run times and a fast chargew would be a nice touch too.

thanks in advance!

I had my G3 delivered this morning!! woop woop

Its a mean looking machine and much much better built than the MTA4 S28 from my experience.

I am digesting the destruction manual & have a few questions in regards to greasing the diffs, is it already done? The box says 95% RTR but the set up instructions are confusing, maybe its just me!

Yep there is some grease in there but a bit more can`t hurt, especially in the centre diff to send a bit more power to the front,or better still silicone oil.Take your time to read the manual first and be careful programming the esc.

Thanks mate, I have been reading the manuals overnight. I will grab some silicone oil today and follow each step in the maintanence manual, i dont have a card programmer :(

where can i get one of those? dont see it on modelsport website :(

How important is it to have a heat gun?

I ordered a hobbyking 150a programme card from ebay,v2 i think, which is identical to the one in the manual. Its not come yet though.I found i couldnt go past step 6 on the esc so i assume you need a card to do the rest.

Today has been amazing. I finally got the G3 running in the back garden, nothing more than a few figure of 8's and a couple of high speed passes and wheelies. I didnt even get long enough to drain the battery before it started raining heavily :( total run time so far is 12 mins, every second of this I had a cheesy grin plastered on my face.

Last night I thread-locked everything after installing the wheelie bar and front sway bar, I went to my LHS earlier to collect an Etronix Photon brushless motor & ESC for my other buggy and also picked up the following for the G3:

5 in 1 Intelligent DC Balancer Charger 0.1-5a (Lipro Plus5)

DC 12v 18a switching power supply

2 x 7.4 2S (cont 40C Burst 70C) 5000mah lipo's

The brushless ESC i got for my buggy had a program card with it, i am going to try and set the ESC with that later/2moro. I shall let you know how i get on!

heres hoping for no rain 2moro!

The ESC in the MT4 G3 is a Hobbywing XERun 150A ESC and so you will need the Hobbywing programmer for it. Get the USB one though as it is firmware upgradable then via USB :)

thanks, i shall hunt one down. I have had some success with using the program card i have but it doesnt have as much control over the esc as the proper one!

on a side-note - i am unhappy, i only had 3mins of drive time and the steel pin has come loose and lost from the rear universal shaft :( suprisingly the grub screw is still there, just no pin. - part number is confusing bcos in the destruction manual the front assembly of the truck is pictured but titled REAR assembly and vice versa.

depending on which diagram i am looking at the part numbers are PD2367 or PD05-0017 - fact of the matter is nothign is broken, just a missing pin!

Grrrrrrrr

Grrrr

I seem to remember someone on this forum said to threadlock everything :whistling: The part PD2367 is the rear cvd driveshaft in a pair but what is the pin? Is it the whole shaft or the pin that sits in the diff cup? If that bit has gone you`ve been really unlucky. And you`re right, the front & rear diagrams are switched in the manual.

it is just the pin that sits in the diff cup that gone, not a scratch or mark on anything else!

The really unlucky thing is that i have become a magician!

I had a replacement pin i found in a box of bits but i pushed it through the hole and it disappeared! i have searched the area i was working in and also i had my finger underneath the hole i was pushing the pin into, **** KNOWS what happened there! now you see it, now you dont! haha

i did not threadlock this area at all :( hindsight eh?

I am still running on my first battery charge & have already been told by Wifey that "i am not allowed to drive THAT truck in the garden, its tearing chunks out of the grass!" I just grinned.

Hee Hee mine said the same thing as it wheelied past the patio! Are we talking about the shaft that goes to the wheels or the centre one from the centre diff because the cvd to the wheels doesn`t have a grub screw,it is just forced in the hole.Do you mean the pin in the wheel end of the axle carrier cos that has a grub screw?

Thought that was the pin, threadlock ahoy! You could use an old allen key or a piece of piano wire from your lhs as a temporary fix.Jayj this truck rocks, took mine out today and pulled some big air at a local bmx track, just don`t expect the a-arms to survive for long if you land on the side of a wheel from a 15 foot high backflip fail! Some of the abuse it takes is unreal.I`ll get a quick vid up one day
