Oshun
Hello everyone! My name is Roger and this is a long lost love hobby that I had when as kid, which I had my first Nikko car, but now I want to take this to another level. So I have a few questions I would like to ask and I would really appreciate your help and experience on this. I have a

scrumpy jack
simulator not needed for a car- just start off taking it easy on the throttle! and if you crash you get to learn how to fix it
Oshun
Thanks guys, I have seen the prices of the Hyper 7 and it seems pretty good as a kit. So I might up the budget a bit to get that. What sort of tools and nitro kits would you recommend to get? Would I need to buy extra things apart from what is included in the box and the obvious fuel ? Cheers
Nitroholic
Don't bother with a simulator....just get out there Sims are great for planes/helis as the cost of 'small' mistakes there can be the total loss of an expensive model. Cars are a lot more forgiving! Well...as long as you don't hit things too hard too fast... As far as your budget goes, you are limited in terms of buying new, but have a healthy budget for buying a good used buggy. Don;t forget when buying that the car is not the whole deal. If you go electric, you will need batteries, chargers and suchlike. Make sure you allow for this in your budget, or you won;t run for long .....or maybe not at all! If you go nitro, you will need a glowstarter, charger for same, fuel and a failsafe. Again..if you don;t allow for the extras, you either end up overspending or with a car you cannot run. You will need to decide whether you want onroad or offroad. The options are very different. Then look to the sort of vehicles available in your chosen type...4WD, 2WD or whatever. Then work out what your budget really is, and see if you can stick to it. There are also scale options...1/10/...1/8...1/16 ... depending on where you want to run your vehicle, the amount of ground clearance and the sort of terrain you will face will be critical. Some types will struggle if they don;t have enough ground clearance off road. The place you need to start is to work out what sort of car you want to buy. There are plenty of experienced RC'ers on here, and many opinions...but if you can narrow it down a bit, we can poit you at a good car to suit your pocket...unless your budget is too small to buy a good car...in which case, we'll tell you that too Don't rule out used....but buy from a good source. tom24-7
id go second hand if your just starting up as new models will need more maintence e.g screws coming loose and engine running in but with a second hand any problems that occurred when new will have hopefully been fixed my suggestion is ebay or here
R46
i use to race at crystal palace with 1/10,1/8 & 1/5 before closure, is an on road track so tourer more suited but if buggy was choice best to get a set of onroad rims/tyres an larger clutchbell for back straight soon as I get transport sorted I be back there catch up with lads from old
lorrylemming
If you are definatley staying under your budget and staying new I would go with a HPI nitro firestorm (1/10 2wd stadium truck) or a hyper 12 mini st (1/12 scale 4wd truggy). But as others have said there is a lot more choice in the 200-300 bracket so a slightly larger budget will give more value.

Thanks! Ok I will supply more info. The car has to be nitro, I dont want to look like im driving a toy lol plus I like the smell and the buzz sound of the engine. Scale I am not sure because I dont have any comparison with, but the bigger and cheaper the better, even though thats contrasting. 4WD is a must. If possible I would like to have it almost assembled, but realistically i will have to opt for the ready to run kits. I bought already an HPI nitro starter kit. Lastly but most importantly the budget has been upped to max
Gaz!
i would say, go for a hyper, dont know which model though. tools, a good set of allen keys, couple of different sized phillips and flat screwdrivers and a 17mm wheel wrench tool, there could be a few more bits too but there should be enough to get a car in bits and back together again. eamo1978
Id still go for the hyper, the hyper black as it has better shocks and a faster engine etc. Youll just need fuel then and maybe a couple of spare os8 glow plugs (ebay is cheapest). Get something brand new tho as you know where youre starting then everything is new and has no history plus its always more exciting when it arrives. You wont believe how high quality it looks when you get it. Oh get a 1600mah hump pack too! If youre feeling flush get a decent starter box and a lead acid battery. Fastrax do a set with one handle and six different inserts 1.5 to 3mm allen hex and a philips and flat driver, these are very handy. I loved my hyper when I had it. Theyre bigger than youd think too! adolf hamster
simulators are pointless really for rc cars. just start off running somewhere where there's nothing to crash into until you get used to the controls. on a budget of
Oshun
What you think of these: [url=http://www.modelsport.co.uk/hobao-hyper-7-tq-sport-black-edition-2.4ghz-rtr/rc-car-products/30403]HoBao Hyper 7 TQ Sport Black Edition 2.4GHz RTR
eamo1978
Get tghe black version it has better hop ups as standard and the engine is race legal plus will be a better engine. For 249 with 2.4ghz gear which eliminates interference you cant go wrong. Is it mainly for bashing? Hyper 7's are better bashers than racers. bowie_no7
depends where in london you are to recommend shops! i got the black edition when i started the hobby and never looked back. very strong, good speed, cheap parts and readily available. eamo1978
There you go buddy, id have another too! If you ever get bored of nitro, convert it to brushless. Very strong, fun model!!!
creamsodauk
hello crystal palace now hosts many cars from hpi baja 5th scale down too smaller on road 10th scale cars. personally i would suggest an off road car, a buggy truggy etc. as on road whilst fun can be very restrictive to where you can run! as mentioned the hyper 7 is a great car, its been around years and hasnt changed and still sells! its a great car. the green 21 model would be your best bet. as for a sim, they pretty much dont exsist for cars. cars arent like plans, if you panic just stop then pull away again lol youl be racing around in no time. eamo1978
Why the green tq model over the black? Whichever you choose mate the servos that come with them are pretty pants so theyd be worth upgrading sooner rather than later.
Oshun
Hyper 7 TQ Sport Black Edition it is then! I am in Dulwich, which is is South East London, so if you know any good RC Hobby shops around this area, that would be great as I prefer a face-to-face support, etc for parts and help. As for the servos, which upgrade should I get? I am to order the fuel now, which type is the best for that car ? 16% or 20% ? Cheers once again
Gaz!
if you plan on buying over the counter, wait until you purchase the car, you will then get the right % fuel and you may get some discount if you buy it all together, nothing ventured, nothing gained........ bowie_no7
with servos it depends on your budget, you can get power HD servo which is what i and many others have and there like
eamo1978
Id get a litre of ten percent cheapo stuff to run the race engine in. Just put the lot thru it while its standing and not moving. Get some 25% stuff too but decent stuff optifuel or optifuel race or even byrons gen 2 (the best stuff). Have five or six tanks on this stuff just driving in figure eights on tarmac on a rich setting easing off the throttle when turning. Then slowly tune it in then. Take the fuel line off the pipe and blow down it to prime the engine and unscrew the plug slightly if needed to make starting easier(tighten it after). Short, fast pulls on the pullstart or itll break.
eamo1978
With servos you often get what you pay for unless theyre second hand which is preferable sometimes. Metal geared is a neccesity and digital is desirable as its more responsive. While youre running it in tho servos arent a major issue. ENJOY!
