Flux XL 2.0 out for its first proper bash 😀

They are surprisingly capable trail crawlers, was able to trek through some dense forest litter without many issues apart from the occasional high center and diff-out

Oh and one odd thing is despite being advertised as having the Tork 2200kv motor everywhere I can find, mine came with a flux BLX2200. Not complaining as its basically the same but still interesting 🤔

Took my converted 25 to the beach at the weekend for a roll in the sand!

It started life as a nitro that was in disrepair, after @Stoat_Muldoon convinced me I needed a Savvy. I'm cheap so I converted it using mostly stuff I just had laying around and a Turnigy TrackStar motor/ESC bundle (the 1900kv/120a one).

Made a cardboard template, then grabbed a file and a drill.

I'm using a 22t pinion with the 49t spur with the nut loctited and cranked as tight as possible. I fully expected to destroy the plastic spur but somehow it has managed to survive almost two years of abuse.

I didn't want to drill the chassis plates so had to use the existing holes. Some pop rivets and cleaning up later:

A bit more assembly and it shreds! (and crashes)

It also makes a pretty good shovel...

The only parts I've actually broken is the rear diff (from too many wheelies) - I put some 17mm wheel hexes and larger tyres and some wheels (off an MTA4 I believe) on it and the spider gears literally exploded into multiple pieces. I've now upgraded to a pair of bulletproof diffs and the updated diff cases and shock towers. The initial build cost £50 for the car and about £70 for the motor/ESC combo, now the total is obviously a little more but I'm very surprised that my very jank motor mount has help up so well - I haven't even needed to adjust it yet.

Yeet.

@MadDirtMonkey

I have to say I love your conversion! I'm converting my SS .25 to brushless not out of budget but sentiment and the car was in great condition before. However I've now replaced everything except the suspension and not realised until writing this post...

I'll probably do a build thread (not sure where to) but here it is currently, just needing an esc mount bracket and waiting for second battery case...

Just now realising these are lowsy pics as I was just getting details shots... I'll take some more soon.

PS: no permanent modifications, drilling etc done so all fully reversible or saleable later if need be.

Thanks folks.

Well everybody says you need a 40mm plus motor but I'm just having fun with this. So I got an Integy motor mount kit, using a Traxxas 3670 motor and Traxxas Castle Creations 6s ESC. I'm happy to stick with the plastic gear and higher hearing as I'm going to limit my motor power anyway. I have no aspirations to do 60mph or jump 100m or anything daft... The build has become overkill and I could have stuck with stock nitro bits in the end but I got excited future proofing it...

Hope to set up the ESC and give it a maiden voyage on 2s this week. Will start a build thread if I do. Where should I post a build thread?

Cheers

@MadDirtMonkey

Thanks for that. I considered that but found the Integy tray lined up with 2 holes and they're £3 on eBay so I just bought a second one for both sides. I'm not sure about the weight distribution but will see. I might move them forward like yours are positioned.

Is there better shocks available for the flux? I've the flux hp upgraded to xl. At the moment it's in pieces as parts have been used on other car but looking to resurrect it, my only problem with the flux is the shocks as everytime I take it out the rods bend like butter, what aftermarket shocks are available that fit?

Here's mine. I'm a nitro newb and would love to convert it to electric but conversion parts seem impossible to find! When it's running I love it, it'll pop wheelies on command, however it's been plagued with issues since day one.

I hope to have it back running soon, then I'll have the difficult decision of keeping it or selling it on to fund something else 🤔

nice savage @everclear1984 is it really that hard to get the parts?

A direct fit motor mount simply doesn't exist any more, and the limited available space means a universal mount isn't an option. Battery trays and single speed conversion shouldn't be too hard, it's just the mount that put a stop to it for me.

Someone else will have to confirm, but I thought their own chassis was XL length? Besides, don't all Savvy gearboxes fit all Savvy chassis? The mounting holes are all the same?

Good point, I forgot you wouldn't have to worry about motor mounting holes. Definitely sounds a good option 👍
