  1. Cheers Wondering whether I could drill out new mounting holes, or whether it would be better just to go for a parma body or similar. It looks pretty pricey for the Blackfoot 3 by the time all the trim is included.
  2. Hi all I've done some reading and it appears that the blackfoot III body will fit the original blackfoot. Anyone know if this is the case? Vintage bits look pricey - I might go for a Parma polycarbonate if the Blackfoot III isn't a goer. Anyone else tried this? All advice appreciated Cheers
  3. Ta all. Assume that the M-03R kit is (1) just a hopped-up version of the basic chassis without shell, and (ii) overdoing it for someone who is unlikely to race it, and I'd be better just getting the M-03M? Can I just check that the 99 euro kit is for a full, running instance of the M03M already built and painted and not something substantially different? I ask as it seems too much of a bargain to be true! Would be a bit disappointed not to have some fun building it, but suspect the missus wouldn't be too upset!
  4. Hi there I was looking at killing 2 birds with 1 stone - getting the missus an RC car to mess about with, and trying an on-road car to complement my buggy and monster truck. Seeing as she drives a FIAT 500 and loves it to bits (she's gone so far as to give it a name), I thought I might give the Tamiya M03 FIAT 500 a go. I'm still a bit confused over chassis types - I gather the re is an M-3 and an M-03R, is the FIAT available in both, and if so is there any view on what is better for someone who is not going to race or spend much time 'under the bonnet'? Also, is the FIAT available in other chassis types that I should perhaps consider? I'm not that familiar with the on-road stuff, so any and all advice gratefully received. Cheers!
  5. Appreciate this thread is quite old, but did this ever get sold?
  6. Hi mate Finally got round to fitting the bits and pieces after holiday, but struggling a bit to work out where the connection for the receiver power is - the original had a separate lead running off the mech sped controller, this one doesn't. I think I'm misunderstanding what BEC is/does - does it mean that the receiver can be powered from one of the channel leads (i.e. I can leave the power socket empty)? I had thought it meant it could be spurred off the speed controller, but suspect that's not correct. Also, I didn't think to order heatshrink for the Deans connectors. Knew I'd forget something! Stripped the old bits out of the car and lined up the replacement parts, but will look to find some heatshrink tubing before I do any soldering. Apols for noddy questions, first time doing this so it's all new to me.
  7. Again, many thanks, much appreciated. All ordered, I put in the tamiya to Deans adapter and bought a job lot of deans connectors (took me a while to realise they were called T Connectors) so will have to dig out a soldering iron once it all arrives. Not quite sure how all the warehouses work in terms of location, but hopefully all will arrive soon. I'll let you know how it all goes! eta: the listing for the motor states it comes with sensor lead, it was more the power leads I wasn't sure about, but if it comes to it I can crib from the knackered motor and a few other places (I think I might have some spare leads from the parma motor I bought years ago).
  8. Great, thanks mate Will look to order the ESC and motor over the weekend, and will look into a receiver which I can use with my current 2.4GHz transmitter (I'll also do steering servo at same time as receiver, as suspect that'll be on last legs by now). I'll keep the tamiya battery connectors for now, simply so I can use the same nicads as for my lunchbox, but I'll upgrade the connectors for both cars and my battery sets if problems arise. I've a few more questions, if anyone could help: Assume the motor and ESC, between them, include all connectors/cables I'll need? The image for the motor shows a sensor cable but no power leads, although suspect they're in the box. Also, does the ESC provide power connection for the receiver, as per the tamiya ESC on the lunchbox, or do I need to connect the receiver to a feed for the battery? Also, I note references to cards for the motor on the shop site - this is all a completely new world to me - assume these are only for tuning, and I won't need one for a simple out-of-box use of the brushless motor? Apologies for noddy questions, I've never used a brushless system so not sure if they're the same as the older style I'm more used to! Cheers
  9. Ta for recommendation, much appreciated. Are there any other things I need to change to go with brushless - to radio gear, wiring or battery connections etc?
  10. Hi all I've got an old vanquish I'm looking to tidy up. The radio gear is old acoms crystal type with original mech speed control and pretty worn looking motor, and all seems to fire up but the car lacks any real punch or speed (my lunchbox is quicker!) I've got the unused motor from the recently bought lunchbox I could fit - I fitted an old parma cyclone II to the lunchbox instead - but I was considering going for an ESC and new motor in one hit. Does anyone have any recommendations for decent budget gear? Doesn't have to be flashy, but would prefer something that gives decent battery life (assuming the ESC and motor influence this!) All advice gratefully received! (eta - I assume I can replace the old mech speed control if I want to go full-on 'vintage vanquish' at some point in future, so would prefer to fit something ghat won't require holes drilled or bits broken off)
  11. Further feedback - handles like a dog, isn't very rapid but is enormous fun! Bit concerned about bangs and crashes - suspect the suspension pins are whacking into the chassis - so will try to dampen it all down. As an aside, I dug out some old RC gear a mate gave me when clearing out his house years ago. Opened up the beatties bag and found a lovely vanquish in there! Radio gear dead - think it's transmitter at very least, and it's a similar version to my old acoms unit so I'll see if I can swap crystals once I get the old radio gear down from the loft. One slight issue is that my mate misunderstood what threadlock was and has appeared to use superglue, which will cause some fun and games down the line. It's got mechanical SC so may look to stick new receiver, servo and ESC in there if the current radio gear is truly dead. (I'll start a new thread on the vanquish if there's anything to add)
  12. Hi all Just to feed back, I had a quick look at the ebay flysky controllers but lead times a bit long (wouldn't deliver until august) so I bought what looked like the same controller but rebadged from a UK shop. A bit more expensive, but the bloke in the shop kindly threw in a servo to take some of the sting out! All together and going fine, the Parma motor sparks like a firework and smells like a house fire but I'll take it out around the park today to see if it's up to the job. If not, I'll put the stock motor back in. Cheers to all for advice
  13. Great, many thanks! First up will be (obviously) the radio and control gear, after which I'll look into getting the thundershot up and running and also *ahem* fettling the lunchbox. Timetunnel look a godsend, the thundershot suffered the catastrophic front mount failure and loads of bits got lost (drive cups and shafts, suspension pins etc) so really handy to find a stockist.
  14. Cheers all for comments, much appreciated. I'll wrap the receiver in a balloon (vaguely recall the Frog has a similar arrangement for its speed controller servo?), assume not a good idea to do the same with the ESC given temperatures? I'll get a waterproof servo. As an aside, I upgraded the thundershot to the 2 front shocks, are any of these (either front or rear) usable on the lunchbox? I'll take a closer look when I get home tonight to see how they fit sizewise. A bit surprised how crude the suspension on the lunchbox is!
