New bodyshell, I think its worthy of its own thread.

Every year at my local club, they put on demonstration races at the Newark Kit Car Show, and its nice to do something to tie-in with it. THis year, some guys are hoping to run Mardave Caterham 7 kits, but they are a but tough to run on low grip surfaces. So apart from Kit Cars, the other attraction at the show are classic cars.

Last year I ran:

Which was an ABC Hobby Mini Traveller. It looked great and did the job, but its now long gone :(

So, how to go one better?

Introducing, Project Moggie!

I wanted to do it in a classic colour scheme, BMC Almond Green with wood frames:

But unfortunately Halfords were out, so in replacement for a 60s/70s green shade, I've got Vauxhall Leaf Green.

Small update, its now cut and mounted into the M05 chassis. I've got a bit of a headache solving the battery problem though. The pack has wires exiting the end, right where the body goes, so it bends it outwards. I'll see if I can trim the battery pack casing (its a hardcased Yeah Racing 3200 LiPo) and make the wires go upwards, but as you can see from the pics, space is tight.

The windows are now cut out, so its progressing nicely. A little trimming and fettling, then I'll squirt it with some paint. :D

Progess!

Firstly, the job was to sort the battery wire issue I had above. 2 mins with a Dremel had the wires exiting the top of the case, and a small notch was taken out of the chassis to match. Now the body sits nicely.

Then, paint. I made it easy to rotate the body without touching the surface, by using double sided tape and a large tin of Plastikote.

Building up the colour.

Final finish. Its a lot closer to the original BMC green than I expect, so thats a bonus.

I didn't want it mint, as its going to be used on track, so its a bit orange peely, but I don't mind. Brown woody bits coming up next, I'm leaving it overnight for the green to cure before masking up the non-wood areas.

Yep, the wheelbase is a bit short for the M05 I'm running it on (like most Kamtec bodies), but you can't fault the range they have :D
