davejg73
Hi guys like it says above, I'm planning on doing some mods over the weekend. I have taken wheels off to do the weights but I'm wondering whats the best eg no foam, star shaped foam or foam kept normal. I have changed tyres to Losi Rock claws at the moment. Oh How Original
I personally favour running no foams, but I run along rocks and very slippery stuff, so I like to have very soft tyres for the most grip possible.
johninderby
I wouldn't recommend running the Rock Claws without foams. Tyre on it's own is too soft.. Star cut foams would work fine even if they're considered a bit old fashioned nowadays. There are other replacement foams available such as Pro-Line or the best foams are those by Crawler Inovations but rather pricy. Some tyres are OK to run without foams but they're the ones with a bit of stiffness to them. davejg73
Thanks for the replies. Would the foam inserts from Rock claws be a better quality. I have noticed that they are slightly bigger then the stock foams but have noticed the stock foams are softer, would it be better to put the stock foams back in. I will be running in the local woods. Oh How Original
Run it and see what suits it most? That's going to be your real only way of finding out
johninderby
The Rock Claw foams are on the firm side so going softer would help. Just tried some Tamiya foams with a Rock Claw and not a lot softer but better. Also tried a star cut foam and the tyres were really soft and squishy. Ideal for rock climbing but not really for general bashing. John
Philxj4L
These are rock claws with the suplied foams on my wraith. They where a fairly tight fit on the bead locks with the foams, and looked to be 'oversized'. The wraith is running some weight as there's no plastic parts on it.. Full ally build with steel cage. On a level surface there's very little deformation. Edited March 28, 2015 by Philxj4L
davejg73
I think I'll try the foams I got with the Scout. If I don't like I can try some of the foams till I'm happy
johninderby
Yes see how you get on and if not soft enough at least you know you can do something about it. Rock Claw with star cut foam. Squishes quite well. John
