specky dx3 battery pack Q.....

assuming you want to recharge it you have afew options.

1. AA size nimh batteries.

2. a small, low power nimh pack (nikko rc style).

3. a small 3s lipo pack, mah size will depend on battery box size.

4. a small 3s li-fe pack, again mah size will depend on battery box size. you may also be able to run a 4s li-fe but that runs the risk of having too many volts and toasting your tx.

options 2, 3, and 4 will require some modding, depending which version of the dx3 range you have, given the 8aa batteries it sounds like you have the original dx3 or the slightly newer dx3.0, as the newer versions can run on 4aa batteries.

if that is the case you best option with me rechargable aa batteries which are either nicad or more likely nimh, won't last as long power wise as a normal aa battery but you won't be buying more for awhile either.

the problem with running a lipo is the stupid batter box set up won't let them fit, at least not most lipo packs, iirc there are some that can fit, i think they are sold on hobbyking. however you can moddify the battery area to fit a decent pack (i did plan on modding my own dx3.0 before getting an updated model), either way there is abit of modding needed on the wireing side, unlike the newer spekky models the older dx3 and dx3.0 were never designed with lipo/life use in mind

that could work, although you will need to work out a way to charge it, using the built in charge port doesn't work out that often if memory serves

personally i'd look into modding the case to fit a lipo, or upgrade to a newer spekky model and fit a lipo to that,

Ok. .been thinking about a newer speky tx as I got 6 of me rc's running speky rx's...so which others r there??me dx3 will only do 3 rc's each...I know the newer ones r dsm2 as i bought sum orange rx's an they wouldn't bind up to the dx3... Edited by evssv

the newer ones run dsm and dsm2 so you're rx units will be ok, but you will still need to bind them, the newer ones also hold up to 40 models in their memory.

the tx i'm using now is a dx4s, 4 channel but you can use the 3 channel rx units with it as well, in fact the 4 channel rx is in my tool box, you can remove the aa battery box insert to fit a lipo battery, which i've not yet done but i will eventually. good if you want the 4th channel as an option like myself or if you need it. if a 4th channel isn't really needed then i'd stick with the 3 channel stuff and save some money, i used the dx3c for awhile and got on fine, kinda out dated now but you can pick them up cheap.

range issues that are talked about are usually down to the rx so as long as what you have work ok then you shouldn't have an issue, although binding all the rx units and setting up the tx and esc for each car is a bit of a pain, it may be the better option.

the other option about modding the tx you have to fit a lipo iirc isn't that difficult, probably been done by now for reference or i expect someone will be able to do it
