Tatts
I was really looking forward to the savage xs due to it being small and cheap to repair but breaking it badly on the first outing isn't a good start, it's also a pita to work on if it's going to keep breaking so I want something to use mainly on the lawn but that can take a beating and be reasonable price for parts as it will be abused. Ideally I want a truck or truggy 1/10 or smaller with a tougher drivetrain than the xs.
RCbutcher
I've been thinking about buying a traxxas stampede xl5 I think I saw one for 220 in Germany. The XS is a cool little truck but I think has too much power like the 1/8 it just eats it drive line in no time. Parts aren't that cheap either really compared with other rcs and the rate the XS needs them. But it's a little beast of a truck.
Geeze
XS is high maintenance and is a complete pain to work on so its fair to say you've got its number already! For cheap and easy to maintain, you can't go too badly wrong with something 2wd and tenth scale. Pick a style and go for something proven. Does depend how big your lawn is though for if you'll have enough room to play with something that size. Or maybe the EMB mini monster truck? Smaller and more garden friendly. Not tried one but my buggy on the same platform was stout, the layout is much easier for maintenance than the XS and the parts are cheap not that it often needed them. Buggy didn't have the ground clearance for grass but an MT should have that covered?

Yes it's a pig, I've used it 3 times since buying it and each time has lasted about 10 minutes and it's not standard either, mainly so called HD parts. The garden is roughly 3 acres with a 75 acre field at the bottom of it so space isn't a problem. Not sure I want 2WD though, I ideally want something cheap to repair and similar size to the xs to have some fun jumping etc. The stampede doesn't interest me really. Just sold all my traxxas cars except one highly modded slash/rally. I did think about another rustler but the last one was always on 2 wheels. sean-vrs
I had a XS used is twice then sold it it's one of only a handful of cars Ive sold it's poop! Hpi Firestorm/Blitz or Traxxas Stampede/Slash you can't go far wrong. Edited March 4, 2015 by sean-vrs
Tatts
I've juat sold a lcg and hcg slash. The hcg rolls too much and there isn't much clearance on the lcg. It's also more like 1/8. I'm guessing the firestorm is like a rustler? What's the drivetrain like?
Geeze
3 acres? That's good space Enough room to play with an eighth scale Not much the same size as the XS tbh, its a funny size. There's the 10tt but that's not a bastion of durability either Stampede 4x4? Bit bigger but at least would share parts with your slash/rally. Or the pro line pro-mt is getting good reviews. 2wd again though

Oh How Original
What's putting you off about 2WD chap? Simply don't like it, or don't think it'll perform well in a field or..? Reason I ask is I've never took my SC10 to my friends field because with it being quite unkept as it's just a spare, I thought it'd move about 2ft, get stuck and spin the wheels, but it performed like a champ! I was very surprised how well it ran for a 2WD on ruts and grass.
Tatts
I had a 2wd slash which I hated and I didn't really enjoy the rustler so stuck to 4wd ever since.
