Proline Pro Buggy, as built by Noj

Recommended Posts

Pictures to whet appetites, full comments and thoughts will com at the end of the build

Contents of box, note less prebuilding onto the chassis, compared with the PMT:

Front bulkhead and bumper assembled:

Mild dissapointment, plastic parts and what's this, non rs bearings?? That will never do proline, shame on you. Fortunately, a tube of  rs1150's was in the spares box

Arms, turnbuckles etc all secured to the chassis:

Point of note on the chassis, option to move the battery holders around a little...handy

Time to cook tea, more later

Rear shock tower, arms and shizzle on and rear guard removed as per the instructions (more on those later)

Had to use an m3 washer to remove the slop in the rear (plastic) hub carriers, and again fitted rs 1150's. Note no spline drives....

Rear bumper and brace assembled:

Can't say there is a feeling of longevity about the lower mounting point for the bumper....the motor plate has a fraction of movement to it when pressed firmly....time will tell:

Whilst in the conservatory, had a look at the PMT chassis as there was something whirring in the mind. Sure enough, proline modified the design as on the buggy, the forward servo mount doesn't bolt through the chassis, something to address methinks...

Now, a few other observations....

The manual is not all that, like an Axial manual, use it as a guide and apply common sense, as parts suddenly appear without being referred to (like the shocks, in step 22??) :xd:

Whereas all bags in the PMT build followed the manual steps and contained all relevant hardware in a logical order, this kit does not do that. Ever.

Turfing out Bag A into the magnetic screw tray is a misnomer, as the first steps use some of the hexes etc, then, after a few more steps, you have bag, after bag, after bag of opened hardware to pick from....I'm having to worked in a confined desk area, so found bags of open stuff a PIA (fortunately, neither cat chose to come and 'help' )

The plus side of this is lots of spare hardware....and interestingly, all the plastic parts needed to convert to the SC, inc bumpers and full body mounts...which almost makes up for the lack of alloy and non splined driveshafts. :whistling:

Stock spur is 86t Harvey

Done for today, bleeding shocks next which I cba doing tonight. Combo will be here Friday (having paid the goddamn ransom  :yucky: ), will crack on tomorrow

Or, they redesigned it for the PMT based on previous failures??

Interesting to notes the specs for the transmission say 18/19t pinny...silly pro line ;)

Will be on with the build today, deciding on paint as there is some masking to be sorted :)

Servo:

Shocks installed, powerstrokes are just lurvely...30wt oil as per the kit, only have a pair of shock socks left, as the rears are most prone to clart, they got them

Now, having besmirched PL for not having an additional servo mounting hole in the chassis, by the time the front body mount and servo are installed, the front end feels much stronger, downside is no room for the wp rx box on top of the servo...

No further leccies to install yet, so having a brew then starting on the cage and body panels

Busy boy so no movement as such, panels nearly trimmed, unsure on colour choice.

Sv3 combo arrived, not convinced it will suit, looking at castle's suggested gearing chart, however, will start on 2s and 20t, temp gun to hand, and see what happens. Aiming to bash her on Sunday (giving paint time to harden off from tomorrow) :)

Oh, hovering over another PMT kit so as to make this as sturdy from the off, lol!

Much fannying about, to whit, installing the wp rx box and changing colour choice, maybe... Pics later, however, two points of note:

1 - the PMT is shorter

2 - castle made FAIL when soldering on the motor connectors on the can

Glacial progress....however.

So, installing wp rx box. With hindsight, probably not required, however...

Out with the plasticard, glue and swann morton no3. Easy option would have been to slide the lipo all the way under the esc mount, then bolt on a stock retainer, givving lots of room for the rx box. After sitting with the chassis and trying the lipo in different places, decided all the way back made it too tail heavy....

The rear pack stop is mounted as far back as it will go, I then made up a plate that bridges the gap between the servo and the end of the lipo, trimmed down the spare pack stop and glued in place. To keep the plate firmly mounted, drilled out four holes corresponding to chassis mounting holes and glued four, tamiya servo posts onto the plate to screw into.

The rx box itself is slighty wider than the chassis and side guards, so I trimmed away the stock mounting lugs for clearance, glued two pieces of box section onto the bottom of the box, then mounted this to the plate. The box is shifted to one side to ensure no fouling of the servo arm and the servo wire is hidden away neatly underneath (really couldn't be assed shortening and fitting a new connector :whistling: )

Clears the cage perfectly.

Ready to go, except I fubard the shell masking......being rectified.... :xd:
