Another airline bans large shipments of LiPo batteries

Only affects bulk shipments for now but just part of trend. Suppose it won't be long until suppliers have to send large shipments of LiPos by sea.

Understandable, I've heard rumour that lipo cells are quite scorchio.

Still, with Hobbyking shipping them to the UK warehouse, it's no big deal.

a passenger plane is pressurized

 

a cargo plane isn't (not including the cockpit)

While this ban isn't going to have any noticeable effect on the supply of LiPos in this country it's just another example of the restrictions creeping in everywhere. If suppliers have to send bulk shipments by sea it just means UK stockists might be out of stock for months rather than weeks.

Planning, anticipation and working together ....

Shouldn't take more than a couple of months to ship, so arranging storage, etc., should work.

 

How long can a LiPo be kept 'new' at storage charge ....

all it really means is the prices will go up

To be honest, don't see why.

Once they get their act together - suppliers - ships carry a heck of a lot more than aircraft, and per unit at a fraction of the cost.

 

Time will tell.

There might be a transition period.

There might be room for investment in a 'local' factory - albeit Blugaria, or somewhere within the EU.

if stock levels have to go up it will cost more to carry the stock unless the suppliers giive the stockists longer to pay. One effect it might have is that the range of LiPos stocked would be reduced to concentrate on the top sellers.

The shipping/ air cargo rules are being broken. 

 

company A is told to ship 10,000 batterys will cost X amount of moneys. they need to be stored in correct container

and then loaded into a air cargo crate for shipment. this is bulk moving. 

 

now company A wants cheaper so he makes more wonga, so what he does is sends each package wraped in a little cardboard box

then each cardboad box is packed into a bigger box.  its cheaper than bulk and he can send 20,000 units because each one is single packed and then double packed into a box.

it the way they cheat the airlines  code of carrying. now one battery has to be packed correctly and it is so but that box can be 4x4ft and filled with lipos

but its still classed as a box with a battery in, not the reality of a box with 400 batterys in.

 

did you know that plane that was lost had lipo batterys being shipped on its cargo manifest , yes thats right a passenger plane , another plane fire was atributed to a lipo fire in a cargo container

and was contained enough for services to put it out. 

cargo planes have been lost, and also factored that they were carrying bulk lipos. 

 

 

lipos are sent in a cardboard box, lots of little boxes and packed into a bigger box then sealed in a cargo crate.

lots of little batterys in boxes = fire hazard right away.

a fire starts the card catches fire starts the chain reaction and thats it, no stopping them, imagine 40 3s lipos going up.

thats a huge fire lots of vent smoke and heat, huge amounts of heat and whats between that and the aircraft inner.

more lipo batterys , cardboard boxes and wood crates plastic wrapping etc etc. 

 

hobbyking is great but they way they cheat the delivery/cargo  does put us all at risk.

it could be our holiday jet carrying that next batch load and it could be your holiday plane that just vanishes 

without much trace.
