OHO's RC4WD Trailfinder 2

Recommended Posts

So I know most of you probably won't be too interested but I wanted to create a log simply for myself to look back on.

Of course comments and such are welcome, but this is mainly my own thoughts as I progress and such.

So some of you know I was waiting for a box, well it arrived this morning, after 17 long days of waiting.

Very pleased with the quality of the parts, as most have said in their own build threads.

The finish is nice, and the build feels very good too.

One thing I will touch upon even just without really building anything yet, having a flick through the instruction book, it's the best one I've come across so far, very clear and uncomplicated.

Lots and lots of different bags ALL labelled correctly, unlike some other kits I've had were it's been basically been a one bag 'take your pick' sort of situation.

Anyway, that's my thoughts thus far, so with them what you will :P

Indeed, one thing I will now note, having got a bit further through the build, I didn't realise their was so many plastic parts, the fuel cell/rx box for example I thought was metal, it's not, it's plastic, same with bumpers and sliders, they're also plastic, which was a disappointment!

Gas board turned up just after my last post so progress has been slow but got some more done... Going to break for dinner now :) not in a rush.

Are the bumpers and sliders plastic on the G2 fella?

Like you say they do receive most of the brunt, closesly follow by the axle cases.

After thinking about it, It's not something I'm overly bothered about to be honest, just something I thought I'd note anyway for if anyone else assumed they were metal.

Looks like a real nice chassis but I thought those parts was metal too mate. I'm sure they will be soon enough lol. Gaz did a nice job on the scx10 front bumper.

Yep, not sure on the exact ratio personally.

Getting a bit mad with this now, the beadlocks seem too big for the tyres :/

I mean I know how to build beadlock wheels, I've built countless sets and changed countless tyres but these are taking like 10 tries per wheel, and my hex driver has rounded after about 2 months, who said Arrowmax were good

Leaving it for tonight to chill out :) will see what happens tomorrow, whether I continue on or what.

What another build you dont mess about lol. Did you check the axels an tranny for grease some come well packed some are far from it. Maybe worth asking the bearing guy on here to knock you a set up the bushing are not the best I've heard some fail on 1st run some have not bother'd but they do sound ruff after a pack mainly the tranny . Keep the pics coming an enjoy running it , you putting the Landy on this ? If so see if gaz can knock some metal sliders up for you to mount the body on unless you can Find original set fs

Yep, and I've got another on the way as well (not a TF2 lol)

Landy isn't going onto this :)

I've noticed the tranny does seem a little bit on the noisy side, and I always check trannys and axles for grease whether it's a brand new kit or RTR or second hand lol :P this one was actually quite nicely packed but I emptied it and put my own in because I like it.

May well indeed get some bearings sorted instead of bushings... See how the first run goes and how noisy it is.

It only seems to be noisy in the slower gear though.

Good good best to be safe . Yeh 2nd is smoother & fast . What plans you got colour wise old skool ? Look forwards to build thread 3 then hehe

Going orange with this one, popped into Halfords today for the primer and paint, got to the till and my Dad said he'd pay for it, bonus!

I really wanted to do a red one, but I already have plans for a red shell, and I don't really like having two the same colour lol.

Indeed, I was the same, it's taken me a good 6 months of Youtubing and reading build threads to actually pull the trigger, I'd read about the driveshafts, so will grab some Punishers soon I think... Along with some CVD's, or I believe they're called XVD's for this, not sure why lol.

And cheers, nice to know people enjoy reading them as much as I enjoy making them and using the rigs I build :)

I think mine was the fact I put wheel weights in, for some reason the tyres didn't seem happy, even though they're thin wheel weights, I cut them myself from bigger ones, specifically for small wheels and tyres lol, just didn't like 'em at all.

I prefer the kind of beadlocks were the bolt just goes from the front and the 'hub' bit is threaded for the bolts.

Muuuuch easier, quicker and gives a tighter fit IMO.

May end up with some black SSD's on here before long.

My dogs got a bit of an upset stomache at the moment though so all RC purchases are now on hold until she's had a clean bill of health at the vets.

So I'm having a slight issue I've not experienced before.

I've got all the electrics soldered in correctly.

Running a BEC at 6v and I've removed the red wire from the ESC's rx plug.

Bound to my brand new DX3C and SR301.

The steering is working fine, the throttle works fine, but every now and again when pressing the throttle, the steering is shaking.

I assumed it was maybe not bound correctly, so re-bound it, still doing the same.

Tried a different BEC, still the same.

Unplugged the BEC, still the same.

So I'm a bit stumped by this one, having tried everything I personally know to try, has anyone got any suggestions please?
