Does anyone agree with my theory about bearings?

Ok, so on high bite tracks such as carpet, where the weight distribution load can be higher and more abrupt than a low grip scenario, I am wondering if the structure of a flanged bearing would help them last longer?

Would the outer cage of a flanged bearing assist the support of the driveshaft axle better and therefore prolong the life?

On a side note, am I getting too geeky on my thought? :whistling:

I will see if I can get some to fit the front hubs on my t4 and see if it makes any difference.

Just one of those brainstorming idea moments (most of mine are not great lol)

If you're worried about keeping bearings in top condition, rather than worry about which are stronger etc, I'd be tempted to just buy a whole new bearing set every season, or two.

For the price they are, I think it would be worth it.

What you would really need is a bearing that is designed for axial loads as well as radial. There are deep groove bearings that can take positive and negative loads but the difference between the ID and OD is usually larger or you could use a bearing that has axial load is a single direction, such as an angular contact bearing and put one on the outside of the wheel and reverse the bearing on the inner side.

Bearings use a standard called the Angular Bearing Engineers Committee or ABEC rating. Normal cheap bearings are ABEC-5 but you can get 7 and 9 with 9 being the highest precision, also the most expensive. ABEC-5 bearings are good because they have the least friction from new but wear out quicker

Cheers
