Ok so I am looking at buying my first quad and as a beginner have been looking at the Hubsan X4 basic model or the Syma X5C I don't want to spend much until I have mastered the basics of flying. Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated I have about

Either of the three will do.

always start small and work up slowly. quadcopters give you a false thought that you CAN fly

its not true its all the electronics onboard.

use the hubsan as a taste of whats to come, learn how to control it , how to exploit it, and how to FIX IT

yep your going to break something , so spare props are the best bet , and a left turning and a right turning motor set.

motors tend to go first if nothing else.

Figure eights you fly this pattern 24/7

you fly nose in and nose out the rest of the time ( fly in a circle but keep the front of the qaud always pointing to the center, you use both rudder and aeirlon to do this)

Hubsan x4 (107L or 107C) are superb for beginners and are still very quick when switched to "expert" mode.

I had a X4 107L but replaced it with a X4 107C (2.0MP on board camera (record only), uprated motors.) and its superb, seems better than the 107L (standard model), more stable (maybe due to slightly uprated motors to carry the camera). Camera records well for a cheap quad, flies smooth and can be very agile in expert mode. "normal" mode is great for indoor round the house flying as it is so steady. Need a good stash of batteries, they only last 7 or 8 minutes and its so much fun you will want to keep going pack after pack.

Flew mine indoors and in the garden (can cope with moderate breezes well for a tiny quad), took it up high above the houses to record the local area (scary in a breeze), took in to the local park, great whizzing around the trees and zooming across the park.

I recommend you buy spares at same time - at least 5 or 6 packs of props, two or three batteries, a spare motor of each type (2). After that they can take a real beating. (crashed mine from about 50ft up full speed into neighbours house. It was fine!

I am now selling my X4 107C to help fund a 250 size quad -hope I have as much fun.
