Tamiyacowboy Posted January 24, 2015 Share Posted January 24, 2015 Have you crashed ? normally when a motor plays up its because its shot through or the esc is faulting out. only way is to remove one of the other motors and try it on the esc that in question to be faulting. now if you do this and the motor that was working fine now starts to cog up, we know the esc is faulty and needs replacing. if the motor works fine, we know the other motor is shot and needs replacing. usually a motor gets a ding from a crash/tip over and thats enough to put it outta action. Tamiyacowboy Posted January 24, 2015 Share Posted January 24, 2015 try a recalibration sometimes the accellerometer or gyro can get stuck so needs to be reset. should be in the manual to re-calibrate sensors. now you MUST do a couple things, one is DO NOT TOUCH the craft when it is in re-calibration. and do not walk past it bump it when recalibrating. this can take a couple mins to 5 mins for calibrating errors to zero. if the problem still happens after re-calibration your motor is shot out ( dont worry it happens to even the best top dollar motors to) i would go find a nice open field close to the house, use google maps to choose somewhere close by but nice and open without many bodys around. trying to learn to fly a bigger machine in the garden is somewhat harder as you have found out. but an open field has less in the way to make you panic and crash. as you get better at flying you can then start to garden fly where controlled stick movement is key Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Off to the local model shop to see if they have spares. Note to self, don't go drinking with brother then buy a quadcopter and try flying it in the garden! Live and learn I suppose. Simon also sorted me out with a set of DJI phantom self tightening props which I'm looking forward to. Hopefully I'll be back in action by the weekend at the local country park! Tamiyacowboy Posted January 27, 2015 Share Posted January 27, 2015 heya 67i good news on motor and the props will keep you going, not a fan of self tighten props myself, but they work. if you do get stuck for props, you want to look for SF 8x4.7 CW/CCW the SF stands for slow fly, its more the shape of the prop, it looks like a paddle, where electro props look more like a dagger shape (from above). CW/CCW , this denotes counter clock wise and clock wise, your quadcopter requires 2x of each so 2x CW and 2x CCW. And the numbering is the size and pitch, so these props are 8 inchers places like hobbyking and giantshark sell the slowfly props kinda cheap to, always nice to have a full spare set break one you have a spare ready to throw on right away. yeah parks are awesome, but be careful take things easy, and keep the public BEHIND YOU. if someone stands beside you ask polite if they can step back a few feet to keep them safe from the craft. some tips to have handy: you do not need a licence as it is a hobby grade machine and is NOT fully automated. your max hight is 400ft limit NO MORE , if your near an airport keep BELOW 60FT ( myself i keep below 40ft as i live in both military and public flight paths) BUILDINGS 150m away people 50m away Clear skys and fly safe Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I got the props because simon gave me a great deal on them and if they do cause any problems I'll just blame him. I have just set my sights on giving this a fair go at the moment before I decide on whether or not to build one myself. Taking into account that the more I spend on my hobby the more the wife wants spent on the house lol... She's talking extensions at the minute!
