SCTE, MIP, and '1/8 Light Buggies'

Recommended Posts

Hey all, I'm not an SCTE owner (we race 1/8 nitro)  but I'm extremely familiar with the ten-series as a whole as I am one of the few folks left still rocking an 810. Thanks to the SCTE I've turned it in to a pretty salty buggy and am close to having it under five pounds. I've upgraded it to the nines....but there is plenty more to go.

Ironically, one of the things becoming popular here where I live is 'Light 1/8 buggy' class. Ironically, I've had one for 3 years now and it's amazing how all the 810's got chopped up for SCTEs, now folks are turning SCTE's in to buggies. Ha ha

For those unaware the 810 it's the nitro buggy version of the SCTE, and while I have/had some nice kits (Mugen, Losi 8ight 2,9, Xray, Agama, Hot Bodies, etc.) the 810 is still my all-time favorite.

Some questions for you SCTE guys

1. Has anyone tried the bearings based drag link by Vision Racing? (Click here to see it).. I am currently running a CF drag link in it now but it's the bushing's type. I'm interested in this Vision one but have not read many reviews but they use quasi-CF so that is a major plus.

2. Have any of you implemented parts/all of the Pro4 or Pro8 kits? As noted, I already have a Losi SCTE buggy, so simply looking to upgrade mine further. There are quite a few number of items that really spark my interest.

3. Anyone running the MIP pucks? I have Tekno shafts and they are okay. I've actually bent them more than I have the stock ones but I like the retainers. I've not seen the Pucks system in person, but I've heard they are incredible and the only downside is lots of maintenance (which I don't mind as I'm a nitro guy we are used to it). ;-)

4. Slop...most of my SCTE buddies love slop but I cannot stand it. I've tried everything (HA balls, Lunfsford rods/dubro ends, different drag links, pretty much everything. Much of mine is due to the hubs (they are original and do not exists) but I'm curious what slop-busting techniques have worked for you. I'm hoping some of the MIP components will work

I appreciate anyone's feedback on these MIP kits, the bearing drag link. and anything ten-series. Below is my 'Light Buggy' ;-) If anyone has created the Pro8 eBuggy and wants to know setups I've found successful I'm happy to share. I've essentially had the Pro8 (or variant thereof) for three years. ;-)

I've got a SCTE 2.0, I'm running the Vision drag link, MIP Pucks, plus a load of other MIP parts and also a KHZ motor mount, I have a build thread on this sub forum, probably a few pages back by now. She's not running at the mo as I've pinched the Esc out of her to stick in my Wraith lol
