Torro M16 Quad Gun Carriage

Been eyeing these up for a while, on a whim, decided why the devil not. Quick order to Torroshop.de and this arrived yesterday:

Was a bit dark when she landed, so have been able to have a good poke around this morning in daylight, and, for the money, I'm chuffed   A little plasticky in places, however the chassis and road wheel mounting gear is all metal, the road wheels having rubber treads, sadly, the main drive wheels are plastic, as are the tracks. The drivetrain looks good, the steering linkages not so,  :xd: :

Front wheels have tiny springs in the hubs, not convinced that the leaf springs in reality would have been left un olive drab :

Point of note, on arrival, both road wheel units were very loose, on closer inspection, one was missing a screw  :shockingscary:  This turned up 3 hours later on the lounge floor, so out with the tiny posidrives and a quick tightening of all screws under the chassis:

Quad guns could do better...weathering up will help a lot! They are led fitted, and the firing sound is reproduced. The micro servo for elevation isn't the best placed, will have to live with it. The toothed, lifting mechanism is metal running on plastic gears, the instructions advise not to run it continually or it will break  :whistling:

The two figures are 'ok', will need some remodelling and repainting and three chums adding (as the M16 had a crew of five).

The remote is truly awful, and the whole rig demands 16 AA's to operate, hence why I ain't run it yet...not enough space on the battery charger  :xd:  :xd: The main battery box is rather large and I haven't yet been able to check how out of real accuracy it sits below the chassis... Will have to source a 9.6v nimh pack for it and perhaps mod the controller for now to take a tx lipo pack.

I see an Elmod upgrade in your future.

Nice to see the pics. Could never judge what it was like on retailers website. I'm sure you'll soon have it licked into shape.

One of these will let you use a regular 7.2 or 7.4 battery or you might want a higher capaity converter.

Thanks chaps :)

Trumpeter produce a static model of the M16, quite detailed with brass etch parts and a metal chassis...the box art for this model is displayed in the instruction manual....coincidence??

The elmod board is a must have, having read the spec (ta for the link, John) and seeing as you're all investing in shiny stick set ups, I'll head down that route after Xmas. Just waiting on my weathering sets etc to land, and the fricking AA's to charge ;)

I'm sure they will AJ, dropped them a message via the contact page.

One thought is have I caught any wires when re-fixing the road wheel mounts to the chassis, as the cables are routed inside the frame rails? Impossible to see now, will stick my mirror on a stick under it in daylight :)

Disappointed, was all excited waiting on the last pair of AA's to charge... :(

Back to Germany she must go, torro shop will reimburse the postal costs either via Paypal or by offering goods to the value (ie battery packs for the M16) as I have asked for a replacement to be sent upon receipt of this one.

Bother!

Ha ha, there isn't.

Been in contact with torro again re their sending out a battery pack for me to try...has to be easier than heading out to the PO in this most inclement weather to be financially raped for posting the thing back!

Yes, no, sort of....

Have a NiMH pack, been a lazy ass and not made up an adaptor to test it. Doing that tomorrow whilst waiting for boiler man to arrive.

Unlike your good self, motivation has been a touch lacking this week ;)

Motivation goes in cycles I suppose. Hardly done anything the last few weeks (don't mention the unpainted Blitzer Beetle shell) but the other day decided to get the recoil unit sorted so the workbench was clear for the Tiger project. Sometimes it's hard to get started on a new project but once you get going no problem.

Sorry but just have to ask.........is it the water boiler or the oil boiler?

We have life....defo a fault somewhere, as the lights only operate when in motion, the rears only light when going in reverse?!?!?

Anyway, now to mod the battery box to take the NiMH properly and look at ordering the elmod board :)
