Desperate Need! Yokomo DiB Help Please

Steve Cole

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

In need of some advice please. I have been drifting for a little while now and been through the 50/50 1.5 and now 2cs. I have noticed with the 2cs the back end is very loose.... Now i know that goes without saying as its over driving the rear wheels twice as fast as the front, What i mean is it just seems un settled and the front seems to have almost to much grip. Its fine for flicking direction through the tighter parts of the track but on the faster parts its hard to catch.

Just wondering if anyone had any set up tips i could try?

Current set up is;

Front

50g front weight

-4 camber
-7 castor
-1 toe out
top shock; middle hole

bottom shock; inner hole
Yokomo HSS pink springs
Yokomo 350w oil, kit pistons, 30% rebound
5.2mm ride height
one-way diff

Droop Screws Removed

Rear

-3 camber
+3.5 toe in
Yokomo HSS blue springs
Yokomo 250w oil, kit pistons

Shock position; inner hole
6.4mm ride height
2.0 cs kit locked diff

Droop Screws Removed

Other

Extra steering option (Yokomo arms) and alloy front hubs with Team Suzuki drive shafts.

Like i said it just seems twitchy and un settled :/ any help or set up advise i could try would be very appreciated. I only run on carpet with Yokomo carpet tyres if that helps.

All the best

Steve

Id say drop the height at the back slightly so its level, have you tried weight on the back? Sounds like lift off oversteer. Id also run the same shock oil all round but that's me. Having the back higher with softer shocks will shift the COG around too much making it twitchy. I'm a grip driver personally but I've been through this a few times on my tourers. Also try slightly less camber on the rear to give it a bit of grip.

As you go up the CS ratios settings become much more precise. I had to completely re-tune mine from 1.5 CS to 1.8.

There's lots of things you can do to shift the grip around.

Lower the rear of the car or raise the front.

Rear camber seems about right as it'll give you a contact patch as the car rolls. Try adding more camber to the front to dial out the grip.

Lay the front shocks down a bit.

Maybe remove the added weight up front and see how it feels?

Thing is steve, everyone has their own driving style so its hard to give out a direct straight forward setup, my setup compared to scratcher is the complete opposite but he enjoyed driving my Vaterra V100 but that's on 0 camber all round and stock toe in because I haven't got the adjustable parts yet for it but I've come from grip driving so I'm not used to all these one ways and locked diffs.good luck and hope you get that bugger sorted :)

Hi Professor, I was the same mate, i come from a TC background so its been a learning curve for me as well...

I have managed to keep the tail under control however it now has very bad lift off understeer.. Now i could up the power but i then run the risk of the car being unstable again...

Drop the rear lower than the front and get rid of the 50g weight, invest in some MST ga26 hard compound tyres for carpet to put on the rear, adjust camber so the tyres are flat to the floor.

Ditch the yokomo springs and buy a set of vertex springs or mst 1.2 32mm springs and run medium up front and supersoft rear

What you need to consider is the entire response of your setup let alone how you've tuned it. Ideally you want a very neutral/zeroed setup on the rear since you want to maximise traction. Maybe add a little toe to help but the main thing is your shocks.

If your shocks are too responsive, they will just let the back bounce around too much losing grip. If it's too dull then it won't respond at all giving you too much front end. Ideally you want it to droop a little when you put it on the ground. It's all about oils and springs.

Cheers for the advise guys, i spend a day at the track yesterday and altered my set up... Teshi your bang on about oil and springs! out of all of the faffing around i found playing with the shocks made the biggest difference. Cheers for the advise as well lee, i will give that a go.

So far i have changed all the shock oil to 25wt all round and put the Yokomo pinks up front and blues in the back (the Dmax springs) i have also got ride of the shock mod with the pistons and went back to stock pistons.

So set up thus far is;

Front

0g front weight

-6 camber
-7 castor
+1.5 toe in
top shock; middle hole

bottom shock; inner hole
Yokomo HSS pink springs
Yokomo 25wt oil, kit pistons, 100% rebound
6mm ride height
one-way diff

Droop Screws Removed

Rear

-3 camber
+3.5 toe in
Yokomo HSS blue springs
Yokomo 25wt oil, kit pistons 100% Rebound

Shock position; inner hole
5.5mm ride height
1.5 cs kit

Droop Screws Removed

I'm going to go for some MST springs next for sure... As for the tyres sadly we can only run the Yokomo Carpets at Radshape but to be fair i think they are a great tyre.

I tried my mates MST and i must say for me it was amazing! It had so much grip which meant i could be aggressive which is exactly what i want... i want it to snap left and right, ok the Yokomo seems a more natural slide but the MST was very precise... Grip is my goal at the moment :)

Not yet Ryan but I'm thinking about it  :whistling:
