themagicnumber
Anybody got any suggestions on how I can record a speed run with like next to zero budget? Like maybe an app for my phone? Just bought a new brushless motor and esc so I want to take a reading from stock, then swap out the gear and do another run to compare. Thanks for any suggestions. Madmini
I have to say I have been tempted to do just that. But not willing to risk my expensive phone. Might get a landfill android for the job. Doesn't matter if it breaks then

oodboo
There are two types of GPS on phones. Good old GPS that doesn't rely our require a cellular signal and agps. Assisted GPS, this uses the signal to speed up locating you, without a signal this will fall back to GPS and may take longer to get a signal. An internet connection isn't required for either. I used to use an old phone with no SIM in it.

Here's a suggestion, protect the phone or use an old redundant handset! That clear enough? The ulysses app is my preferred poison, works well for me. Did I mention that you must protect the phone? The ulysses app is my preferred poison, works well for me. Did I mention that you must protect the phone? Ouch!! That's not great but a good sturdy cheap phone case would have possibly avoided that outcome. Not that I do often use my s4 for this kind of thing. It has come off on several occasions at 60 odd mph and been fine. On grass obviously. I normally use an old cheapy.

The case it was in was annihilated, just exploded in to pieces. My fault for doing it on road. All fixed now.
