Hi. It's that time of the year again that my son wants a nitro car for Christmas.

He has had electric since last Christmas but now wants nitro.

What would you recommend for a 10 yr old for around 150/170 ish?

when u say electric what model is it??? As u well know(or not) nitros can b a right pain in ass!!...plus he wont be able to run unless ur around......as with leccy ones its plug n play....but if its nitro then what style of rc do he like????and were will it b used mainly????my boy..hes 10 also has a savage 3.5 mt...and a rex x 3.5 buggy...both nitro...but he cant start em jus yet......so his brushless ones get more use as he uses them as n when he wants....if I'm a work or out .......unlike nitros where I have to b there. ..... hi mate you will struggle at that price point, for ease of use and parts i would reccomend the hpi trophy 3.5 or the hyper7 both are very good models but both are around the

Yea firestorm quite a good investment but as pointed out above nitro can be a pain in the bottom. I currently have a firestorm with ads of hop ups and struggling with the clutch atm. Will get there. :-) can buy firestorm new for 180-190 aswell but from new engine will need to be broke in.

How about a 1/10 1/8th scale brushed rc?? It would have a lot more versatility as were u could run it....longer grass..rougher ground ect......and he would probably enjoy it more as he'll use it more.......and if u choose wisely u could upgrade it to brushless when hes ready for the nx step. ....

There's probably loads....u could look at ftx range..carnage...vantage. ...or the hip maverick range....can't remember the names now.....annsman an do a few brushed ones....ask ur boy to pick a few out and see which he likes/goes for the most. ...which style...otherwise we could b here all night. ..lol!!! Legend. Thank you so much for taking the time. Will let him have a look in the morning.

no worries. ....jus remember monster trucks will go more places then a buggy as they got higher chassis/ground clearance ...but won't b as stable as a buggy....A truggy will b sum where inbetween.....there's loads more on ms jus go through all the electirc models n see what he picks Edited by evssv

If money is not an issue savage flux is a quality off roader. I in middle of fixing up a savage 4.6 with xl kit and amazed what the clearance is on it goes up down kerbs like they not there. Flux is electric version. I own the carnage can buy a brushed for 110 new but not the quickest but will go off road nice and can get brushless for about 150 more speed but then with brushless you have to be aware of risks with lipo batteries but if looked after properly will be absolutely fine.

hi, the ftx range look ok, but from my experience they are not very good, I bought the ftx carnage for my son a couple of years back, it had something wrong with it every time I went out, poor radio range, stripped screws etc, waste of 100 pounds, if you can go with a good brand like hpi, there much better built and parts are plentiful, I know there more expensive to start with, but in the end the cheaper options end up costing you more in the long run,  also if your running on grass look at getting a 4 wheel drive buggy or monster truck, they will cope much better on grass,
