johninderby
Recently picked up one of the Tamiya Blitzer Beetle re-re kits. By today's standards not exactly sophisticated but that part of it's charm. Simple it may be but it has that old school look that I like. It will be pretty well stock except for the tyres and white Blitzer wheels and alloy shocks. It's going to be painted a suitable retro colour, Fjord Blue. Rover Man
But is a re release classed as "Vintage" ??????
Noj
It isn't, yet the re-re falls into a big, gray area of acceptability where it is welcomed and cossetted much like its older siblings.
Gaz!
it could be argued, the design and format is the same... much like the laziest car manufacturer....porsche. but because were all nice, re-re is welcomed at the house of vintage.....

Popular Post johninderby
Have you seen some of the prices being asked for untouched genuine vintage kits? Yes the re-re kits have a place even if they aren't "genuine" vintage. Just as I'd really like an original 427 Cobra a kit car is the closest I'd ever realistically be able to afford. Rover Man
Now im not saying theres anything wrong with the kits, Just in my eyes there not vintage and cant really work out why you would want to call it that. Theres a reason the first release ones are expensive, There vintage !!! Calling new models the same thing dilutes the idea. All in my opinion of course. As i say there great kits that fill a gap in the market.
Noj
Perhaps a section rename to 'Vintage/re-re'? Gives clarity as to what the section contains, and shows both are 'welcome in the house', as Gaz so eloquently noted
johninderby
How about something as simple as allowing selection of any thread as "Vintage" or "Re-Re". Same way as threads in the sales section can be RTR or Spares etc. John
oodboo
Looking good John, not sure about the White wheels but I'll reserve judgement until it's finished I'm happy to see re-re builds here. I think of them more as tamiya classics rather than new kits. The re-re kits allow more possibilities with the build as well, personally I don't think a vintage kits should look anything other than box art but you can do what you want with the re-re.

Saw a pic of a Blitzer Beetle in Fjord blue with white wheels and the combination just worked. Orange wheels would go with a white or black body though. Popular Post RJJ
I think its great the forum has a vintage section and for me personally true vintage and the re releases together is not a problem. "Nostalgia" for me better sums it all up for me and why not. Re live those rc dreams, not the nightmares lol. I recommend this to any one with a passion for RC. I have recently been in my mums loft as she kept some of my childhood stuff. I managed to find my tamiya ta01 chassis escort cosworth, shells in not bad nick. From that I rescued my vintage tekin pro esc and a tamiya acto power touring special motor. Sadly my dad quite a few years ago got rid of a one particular box, so my mum told me. This was my treasure hunt as I scrimped, saved, studied hard as it always managed to ease my dads wallet and finally after a year or so I managed to get the money together for a tamiya avante. The technigold motor is lost as well, plus my futuba 112b esc, oh and a reedy pink dot. I would have restored it but I remember its short comings of technically brilliant in design, but to heavy, lots of understeer from wide front tyres. Its why I put a reedy pink dot in it, but it was power hungry, fun for 4-5mins and then I got a nice tekin esc for my b'day and thats the one I have and ran it for a while here. Nib prices of the avante are pretty eye watering just look on ebay. The modelshops where I grew up, I can't even remember seeing an egress in the flesh, just talk about it, loads of hype. I remember asking about the longer length chassis and gasping at the expense again plus really deep inside I wanted the kit in all its glory but no monies and my dad had enough of helping me out with the expense of repairs and rc prices. The egress was Edited November 20, 2014 by RJJ

the watchman
Rjj you hit the nail bang on the head mate. I still have a ta01 escort cossie tiger stripe, it brings back so many memories for me, i was 11 years old maybe 12 when i got that car, my nanna bought it for me for christmas, i made a right mess of the body shell though as it was the first rc i painted myself using acrylic paints lol, the white body was ok when first done but quickly started flaking off, i also stuck all of the stickers on without peeling off the protective cover lolol, aarrrahhh i was mortified, so i ended up with a flaky stickerless cossie lol. So roughly 7/8 years ago i spied a mint unbuilt kit on ebay, it had to be mine no matter what, and this time that cossie body was going to get done properly, i was chuffed to bits once i had completed it, it kinda made up for cocking the original one up from child hood days, i still have it today, makes me smile like a cheshire cat every time i look at it and to this day it stays unused and mint Sorry for hijacking your thread a little, blitzer beetle is one of my faves Edited November 20, 2014 by the watchman
johninderby
Sorry for hijacking your thread a little, blitzer beetle is one of my faves A little highjacking always welcome on one of my threads. Makes things more interesting. I'd love to be able to find an original Marui Big Bear monster truck kit some day. Was my first proper RC. However have picked up a repro body and decal sheet and have a Lunchbox chassis that is similar enough to the original and just needs the wheelbase extending 10mm. Lunchbox tyres on white wheels are pretty close to the original ones. John Edited November 20, 2014 by johninderby
RJJ
ahh the big bear datsun, just about remember them Also sorry for thread hijack, i will start a new thread in this section for a good discussion on the subject of vintage/collectebiles/nostalgia soon. johninderby
Been gathering bits for the Big Bear repro project, and after my earlier post decided to check eBay to see if there was anything new and a U.S. seller has an original roll bar for sale so I've bid on it. That was one of the hard to find parts I really needed. Now if only an original bumper would come up for sale but they are virtually unobtainable.
