stujh85
I've been looking for a while now at electric rally rc on the market and the FTX hooligan looks to offer the best spec for the money. Has anyone else here bought/ tried one? also looking at the size of it seems a bit bigger than 1/10 scale that it's claiming to be, if it's difficult to get bodyshell I might have a go customising the original shell, if so any tips doing this would be great
b19jas
No tips from me, but posting same question in different sections usually gets a telling off.
Wraithstorm67
I've just been looking at the FTX next to the Ken block and at a glance they looked to be the same size shell
chewbacca
I'm gonna buy the wheels, shell and body mount posts and convert my Vandal.
Noj
Personally, I think the wheels look very Argos and spoil an otherwise nice looking rally car.
chewbacca
What would you recommend as a replacement Noj?
chewbacca
Just found these: http://www.modelsport.co.uk/carisma-m40s-glued-wheel-tyre-set-audi-quattro-/rc-car-products/378998 Very tempting. Scrub that, these are the ones: http://www.modelsport.co.uk/fastrax-1-10th-touring-wheel-rally-block-5-spoke-white/rc-car-products/365690 Edited October 28, 2014 by chewbacca
Noj
Proper rally blocks, depending on actual arch size, clearance and stock wheel/tyre diameter. Quite like Absima wheels and tyres myself, run a set of their road tyres on the df02 and am very impressed with quality and wear. Looks like a cheap and entertaining runabout tbh, the tyres are, for me, oversized and a bit toy grade comedy style. Thing is, have you hit the nail on the head by (buying and) converting the Vandal...especially if there's a suitable bl combo and servo in the spares box?
Noj
Carisma ones would be suitable too
chewbacca
No BL combo spare atm but the 550 15t can and 45a ESC on 2s make the Vandal a lively beast Those Ripmax wheels along with the shell and posts come in at 35 quid plus postage. Add that to the 45 quid for the vandal, 40 odd quid for a combo, cheap servo and tx/rx and yeah, cheapo Hooligan. Gaz!
would they not be too small?? looking at it, looks more like 1/8th scale sized wheels. would the carisma 959 or wr8 wheels not be a better choice?? doesnt look like a bad buy for the money
Noj
Without having one to poke at, it's hard to say Gaz.... I think the stockers may be deceptive in terms of actual size... Vandal conversion is the cheaper option for those with existing kit/lipos....
chewbacca
We need someone in Otley to measure the wheels lol
Gaz!
yeah the wheels look tiny with balloon tyres fitted...... i suppose sc wheels and tyres would/might work if it is bigger than a tt01 for example.....
Noj
Depends on arch clearance. I thought my sc rims would fit nicely under the rally shell, which they didn't. At all. Traxxas rally boots are ok for tarmac and loose gravel/dust, struggle for grip on grass...
stujh85
thanks for the replies everyone, I think apart from the wheels it looks to have a decent spec for the price according to the dimensions the wheels are 94 x 40mm, any recommended rally wheels to suit would be helpful
Gaz!
so thats 1/10th wheels and tyres out the window then..... have a look at the hpi wr8 offerings and see if they could work maybe??
chewbacca
I like the prices of the wr8 wheels, they look good too.
Deafty
60-70 mm diameter for 1/10 touring tires as u fellas previously linked. 1/8 sounds too big.

stujh85
sorry to bother everyone, although the ftx looks decent for the money I can't help but look at alternatives to compare, if I can stretch my pennies I'm looking at The Kyosho Fazer ve-x anyone with thoughts on that model? chewbacca
Looks ok, I'd want a better can in there though, 2400kv just doesn't seem enough.

Normal 1.9 inch 1/10 scale touring car wheels don’t fit over the hubs need to space or find a specific offset the wheels on it are 2.2 buggy wheels standard fit on all 1/10 buggy of which this is based

Way better than stock. Having said that, I do like the look of the new Hooligan wheels, look a bit Fiesta ish.
