abarth_1200
Hi everyone, picked up this Traxxas revo off the classifieds section. Absolutely great car, but after a few tanks I've blown two glowplugs. Any ideas? Also it seems to slow down very quick as soon as I lift off throttle, almost like I've hit the brakes but it's not that, there is a whirring noise that increases and decreases with speed, sounds like the gearbox. It also likes to get stuck in second gear after a high speed run, couple of blips from the throttle and it's back down to first. These are probably problems these cars have had in the past so I'm hoping for an easy bit of help Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Andythecrane
Try resetting the engine and retune slowly from there. You could have been lean at the top end. Adjust the brake rod to make sure the brakes aren't dragging. And might be worth opening up the gearbox for cleaning and checking. There will be other revo guys along soon to help as well. abarth_1200
Oh damn, not looking forward to digging the gearbox out. The plugs did look a little brown when I took them out, however there was a light coating of oil, stripped carb and reset already then blew another plug. I'll dial my tune on the hsn down a touch, didn't seem to be too lean but it might just be. The only thing I see with the brakes is the dial with the spring, it's slack and there is a bit of play between the pads and rotor. I'm most worried about the whirring noise, it didn't do it the first tank I had it until the clutch spring went and stalled the engine, only after I replaced the shoes and spring did I notice this whirring sort of whine. abarth_1200
On a side note are flysky tx/rx any good an upgrade from the stock Traxxas 27mhz old tech? Straight swap over? Or any other recommended radio sets? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Andythecrane
I use the Flysky GT3 TX/RX, and i love it.
Andythecrane
On the subject of the whirring noise, could your mesh be out. Did you set the mesh with the piece of paper trick?
sean-vrs
Your clutch is engaged mate hence it slowing down on its own and the noise. Test this quickly by pushing the car along and see if you can hear the engine turn over or feel it binding. abarth_1200
I'll double check the mesh but I've found just meshing by feel and sound has always had good result when I test with paper anyway. Can't remember where I saw the tx now, need to have a look again. One of my clutch bearings lost it's dust shield so I flipped it around so it's facing the other bearing, this is maybe not helping. Also the spring was a little tricky to seat in the groove, it ended up sticking out the groove where it joins together. I think I'll just get a 3 shoe clutch system with new bearings and see how it works out, Strc 3 shoe clutches any good, can't find any in the UK for quick delivery. Any ideas? Andythecrane
The clutch i use is the BUKU SPEEDTUNE. Purchased direct from Buku. And i have had zero issues, and its easy to strip and clean.
abarth_1200
Yikes that's too much for my winter basher. Just run another two tanks through it down at my skatepark and blew the glowplug again, after richening it by half a turn. Will get a new clutch ordered with new bearings and start from full factory. Andythecrane
I can't remember what fluid I have in my front and rear diff. But I think it is a wee bit lighter. The standard Revo gearbox does not come with a centre diff, house have to buy that and fit it. They say it needs 500k diff fluid. It is recommended that you lock up 2nd gear, as the new motor has an abundance of torque. And start with a 19 tooth pinion. There is a video on the YouTube showing the process. Andythecrane
Yes. He can run it unlocked, but the torque will damage the box eventually. Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk

RCbutcher
Ive pulled my revo apart since i won't be using it for well over a year by the looks of it. Its not a done deal but it might end up needing alot to get up and running again lol. but things I've thought about changing anyway. A true truck build next time rather than monster truggy. Hopfully my next rc works out lol.
