Tamiya Grasshopper, Hornet etc.

Seeing the post in RC news about the Grasshopper bundle has got me thinking about the old 80s Tamiya 2WD buggies. Fancy getting hold of one of the re-issues, but which one. Yes they are a bit primitive by today's standards and don't handle very well at all but that's not the point. Just looking for something a bit retro.

So which one would you choose keeping in mind it would be kept fairly stock with only a few minor mods?

Grasshopper

Hornet

Fox

Frog.

Aye, noticed the market is either flooded or has none. The pair cost less than buying the re-re and are in remarkably good condition, tho neither has the original driver figure. Will certainly get a runner sorted for little additional spending, undecided as to brushed or mild bl though.

Have two tamtech Fox's as well. You could say I have a thing for them.... ;)

If you have to ask the question probably none of them.....

Retro RC's are a nostalgia thing - it either means something to you, or it doesn't. If it doesn't then really its just a rather expensive but not very good RC.

A car you had, or at least badly wanted back in the day makes total sense. I've got a pair of RC10's because thats what I ran back then. I'm after a vintage 4wd, but it would have to be either an Optima Mid or a Yokomo YZ870c, both of which I used to have. The more popular Schumacher CAT means nothing to me, I never had one so there are no memories attached.

The exception to this is the Lunchbox which isn't really a retro RC so much as a design that works so well its never needed updating.
